Food insecurity is an important aspect for every stage in life. People who are faced with food insecurity can suffer and not achieve the same milestone as a person who has abundance access to food.
There are social determinates for food insecure people where they are unable to buy healthy and nutrient food due to income which is strongly linked to food insecurity. With a large portion of the Canadian population facing poverty or having low incomes, it is creating a cycle of hunger. The lack of nutrition food is affecting every stage of life that is being passed from one generation to the next. A family that is not able to access healthy food during pregnancy can cause the infant to be born with delayed growth and be prone to illness. As they grow they can have stunted physical and mental development that can lead to learning difficulties that contribute to limited work and income. This is creating an unequal playing field where children that have faced food insecurity are unable to achieve the same level of children that are not food insecure.

For example, there is an increase reliance on food programs such as breakfast being offered to children in school and food banks.
