Food Diary
Food Diary My diet compare to the recommendations I received from the Food Guide Pyramid has a lot to be desired, the first day my dairy intake was less than one cup, meat and beans intake was less than 6 ounces, fruit intake did not equal 3 cups, grain intake was less than 7 ounces, vegetable intake was less than 1cup. My servings ranged from 1 of the dairy family to 6 servings each of the carbohydrates. The second day I increased my fruit intake and meat intake, decreased the bread intake and I increased the dairy intake because I included cheese but I am going to have to substitute something else because I am lactose intolerant. The milk I drink is lactose free and nonfat. I will have to work very hard on the modifications because I am going thru menopause and the cravings are unbearable at times. I have considered taking diet pills to control the cravings.
I am borderline diabetic (I may be full blown but my doctor has not confirmed that yet). I will need to increase my physical activities. Some nutrient-rich foods that I could add to my daily diet are brown rich, cold pressed virgin olive oil, more vegetables and increase my water intake.

To live a healthy lifestyle, it is important to be informed on what the average person should consume. A popular chart, known as the food pyramid gives a guideline to the intake by category on what portions should be eaten daily. According to the USDA’s 2010 dietary guideline it is vital to consume up to two to three cups of fruit and vegetables, three to four ounces of whole grain, five to six ounces of proteins, three cups of dairy, and five to seven teaspoons of oil (fats) (Food Group Overview). Do not forget about the water! Any easy way to remember what and how much needs to be consumed is shown on a plate chart created by the USDA. One should fill half of their plate with vegetable and fruit, and the other half with proteins and grains with a side of milk. As impossible as it may seem, meeting these requirements…

Macronutrients are simply protein, carbohydrates, and fat. The diet's plan suggests 40 percent of your daily food intake come from carbohydrates, 30 percent from protein, and 30 percent from fat. The book will help you to calculate the daily grams of protein you need. When you find your grams of protein you need to divide by 7 to get the number of blocks of protein you should be eating each day. 7 grams of protein equals one block. So if your daily intake was 75 grams this would be equivalent to 11 blocks each day. For each block of protein eaten you need one block of carbohydrates, which is equal to 9 grams. This goes for fat as well, each block of protein needs one block of fat, which is equal to 1 ½ grams. (1) This seems like a good balance of the macronutrients, however, breads, grains, and pastas are highly discouraged in this diet. Carbohydrates in the Zone should mainly come from fruits and vegetables, and even some of these are limited. This is somewhat different from the recommendations of the ADA and the food guide pyramid that suggest 6-11 servings from the bread, rice, grain and pasta group daily.…

Stated in an earlier eating plan that I would like to add more fruits and vegetables to my diet, I tried this and I was unsuccessful in my attempt (Konate, 2011). I tried to add more fruits such as apples and bananas but after eating this for a few days I found that I needed something different and I am just picky about what I eat. I love to eat and often times if I eat the same foods over and over again I will not want to eat them anymore. What I decided to do that was different from my original eating plan was to continue to eat the way I was before but in moderation. I cut back on my fried foods and I cut back on my eating out; instead of grabbing something quick for lunch I would bring my own lunch this way I knew exactly what I was eating and I knew it would be healthy for me. I believe that the reason for me not changing my eating habits is because I find…
