The article explains, “the hero is someone who has given his life over to someone or something bigger than himself.” It is important for us to know that heroes are not only fighting…
what exactly is a hero? Who can be classified as heroic? From my perspective a hero is not only someone who wears a cape, has superhuman strength, wears fancy clothes or someone who saves his lady from the bad guy; however he is someone who stands for strength, bravery, humbleness, justice and equality. I believe a hero is someone who truly intends to make the world a better place for all people. He stands for what he believes in even though he may encounter danger and obstacle. We often watch movies with action heroes fighting for a good cause, but these heroes cause us ignore the real life heroes such as Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr are genuinely the definition of a hero.…
As mentioned Amy Purdy is the best example of a true hero because of the ordeal she faced and the way she was able to overcome it. Although the journey was difficult she overcame the obstacles she faced with the support of her family and friends and her loving husband and supporters she got through it and in doing so not only helped herself but those in the same boat as her. To conclude I want to leave you with a question put out by Amy Purdy “If my life were a book, and I were the author, how would I want this story to…
On the eleventh of September, 2001, four planes set off bound for separate destinations across the United States of America. Little did the passengers know as they boarded these planes that they would never live to see another day, as Muslim hijackers were onboard the flights with the intention of launching a terrorist attack on the country. Two of the four planes were deliberately crashed into the Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan, New York City, killing thousands of people and injuring hundreds more. A third plane was flown, once again deliberately, into the Pentagon – the headquarters of the US Department of Defence – killing everyone on board. The fourth plane was bound for the country’s capital city, Washington D.C., but the passengers managed to stop the hijackers from reaching this destination and instead crashed the aircraft into a field in Pennsylvania. Everyone on board the plane was still killed, but they saved hundreds of innocent…
Heroes are unbelievable! How does someone become a hero? Heroes that fly and battle crime are not actual heroes. Real heroes are people who do something heroic, unusual, or important. Heroes are people who take risks. Heroes prospect their life to do something good for us. They save us when we are in trouble, pick us up when we are down, and give us hope. They also solve problems, distribute justice, make a positive difference in the world. Harriet Tubman and Elizabeth Blackwell are heroes. These people took risks and did important things.…
September 11, 2001 was a day a tragedy for the United States. This was the day terrorist attacked. In the essay “The Price We Pay” written by Adam Mayblum, the events of this day and the heroic actions of ordinary men and women were shown. Many men and women were heroes that day because they exhibited bravery, selflessness, and leadership qualities.…
The fourth plane was said to be heading for the White House or the U.S. Capitol. However, heroic passengers had stopped the hijackers and crash-landed the plane in an empty field in Pennsylvania. If it weren’t for those courageous passengers who decided to do something, things would have gone much worse. At approximately 5:20 pm, World Trade Center Building 7 had collapsed due to the heavy debris that had hit the building. The other four buildings were damaged. George W. Bush had stated after the attacks that, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” He was right. After the attacks, Americans were closer than they had ever been. People helped strangers on the street and everybody felt the emptiness in their heart because of all the losses on one day. The attacks were financed by Osama bin Laden who attacked in retaliation of the United States support of Israel. Some of the terrorist involved had been in the country for more than a year and others slipped in before 9/11. They had taken flying lessons and chose those specific planes because they help great amounts of…
When I think of a hero, I think about The Incredibles or Simba in The Lion King. A hero is someone who sacrifices their life to help other people. Heroes come in all forms. Heroes are leaders. They stand up when life gets tough, and they are someone people can count on.…
On September 11, 2001, the world changed. It was said to be a beautiful day, almost perfect. Then in an instant, a plane smashed into one of the Twin Towers. The building instantly lit on fire and the whole city went into a panic. There was debris falling everywhere, and even six blocks away from the building, you could see dozens of papers raining down from the sky like ashes from a fire. Police officers and firefighters were constantly rushing in and out of the building, salvaging every single life they could. Most thought it was a freak accident, but some say they knew from the beginning. It seemed so tragic that nobody could imagine a person who would do something so horrible intentionally. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the second tower was hit.…
A secretary calmly goes about her business, when all of a sudden, a shadow falls over the room, and someone screams, “It’s an airliner! It’s going to hit the tower!” That day, all America realized that this great nation is not invincible. The events of that day have not faded from the minds of Americans, for there has not been attack of this magnitude on American soil since Pearl Harbor. We will never forget the innocent people who died. The tragedy should never be forgotten, so man will remember the brevity of life, his own insufficiency, and the grace and judgment of God. Yet even in the midst of tragedy, the Lord brings hope: stories of courage, selfless sacrifices, and the one plane that was meant to be used for further destruction but the passengers overcame the terrorists, and they saved many lives at the cost of their own.…
Shock, disbelief, and devastation were just a few of the emotions that people around the world were experiencing on September 11th, 2001. On what seemed like a normal day in Manhattan, New York, little did everyone know it was the beginning of a huge unthinkable disaster. 8:46 a.m. was when the first highjacked plane had hit Tower One. Not too long after, the second tower was hit. Dozens of fire crews responded as soon as they heard the news. The issues that were recognized in the outcome of this terrorist act were social, psychological, and economical.…
On April 19, 1995, a big tragedy occurred in the United States, a terrorist attack took place in Oklahoma City, at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The bombing resulted in 168 deaths, and more than 800 injuries. This was not the only major event the united States have faced; in September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City was attacked. Nearly 3,000 people were killed, and that is including service providers that were lost in the tragedy that occurred in NYC, The Pentagon, and in the plane crash in Shanksvile, PA. These terrorist attacks all, have similarities and differences, and today I will discuss that along with lessons that were learned, and lessons that we can use in the future to avoid another tragedy like these to happen once again.…
When people define the word hero it usually varies by age, gender, and generation when they answer, and even though people's connotations of the word may vary, the denotation and the connotation always seen to cross paths with each other. According to Merriam-Webster.com the definition of hero is "a person who is admired for great or a brave act or fine qualities: a person who is greatly admired: the chief male character in a story, play, movie, ect." A person's connotation and the denotation both have to do with someone being admired or a person who has performed a great act of selflessness. The word "brave" means "Ready to face or endure danger or pain", and that’s exactly what people associate with a hero. People imagine a person who will put their life on the line to save someone elses, and they are admired greatly for it.…
A person that I believe is a ‘True American Hero’ is Chris Kyle. Chris Kyle is known for being the deadliest sniper America has ever had. He was known as The Legend to his Army brothers, and to his enemies as al-Shaitan, “the devil.” He was apart four tours of duty in Iraq. He earned two Silver Stars and…
“Where were you on 9/11?” Every American twenty and older could answer that question. Having been less than two years old at the time, I don’t remember that day very clearly. I, along with my peers, had to learn about the heinous attacks from parents, teachers, and news articles. I didn’t know until I was about ten years old that among the stories of death and despair were tales of American bravery unlike any before.…
