Five Stages of Organization Development
1. Identify and explain the five stages of organization development (OD). In your response, use a time at work when your organization went through these stages. a. Anticipate a need for change: an organization needs to anticipate a need for change. For example, universities and colleges began to understand that they needed to change the way classes were taught. They had to develop a new delivery system of teaching. Now we have online classes. b. Develop the practitioner-client relationship: Once an OD practitioner has entered the system a relationship develops with the organization. The practitioner must establish a pattern of open communication, a relationship of trust, and an atmosphere of shared responsibility. Similar to a relationship of husband and wife communication helps establish trust, integrity, and a sense of helping one another, whether it is to help the children or as simple as selecting what color to paint the livingroom. There needs to be an established relationship in order to accomplish the task of changing something. c. The diagnostic Process: this is the phase where the practitioner and client begin to gather data about the system. The data can help answer questions about key problem areas. For the organization that I work for, we wanted to find out why hits to our website homepage where so low. We brought in an outside consultant to help with the problem. They gathered information from website viewers, with this date we were able to pin point the problem. d. Action plans, strategies, and techniques: a series of interventions, activities, or programs aimed at resolving problems and increasing organization effectiveness. e. Self-renewal, monitor, and stabilize: This is the phase where the organization will monitor the results and stabilize the desired changes. 2.
