I also plan to keep playing it year round. My goal this summer is to go on a run at least once a week. Also, I really want to start doing 5 minutes of core each day. I hope to eventually apply overload and do longer than 5 minutes of core. This summer I also want to start making healthier food decisions. Instead of eating junk food, I want to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. I also don’t drink enough water, so I want to start carrying a water bottle with me so I will remember to keep drinking it. In college, I also hope to play softball. In college, I want to join a Zumba or dance class because I like dancing and think it would be a great way to exercise. When I’m an adult, I see myself exercising with my spouse. I love to go on walks, so that would be one way I would stay fit. I also see myself joining a slow pitch softball team. I don’t see myself getting a gym membership because I would rather run and do core at home. I may not get one, but I might go to the gym every once in a while to lift. Another activity to keep myself fit is playing with my kids. I will be constantly running around with them and playing games with them. I also get to buy my own food when I’m older, so I hope I make good, healthy

My whole life since the age of 3 revolved around sports. I excelled in soccer and continued to play at the collegiate level. I came from a family of really athletic people. My Mom and sister Kaitlyn both played softball from a young age and had many great accomplishments. My sister Kassidy played soccer from a young age as well. I have a lot to live up to. I started playing soccer when I four and I played for one year until I was no longer interested in it anymore. I started softball when I was five, and it wasn’t my favorite. I then retreated back to soccer for a few years. When I was in second grade, I cut my ankle on the bowl that my dog broke when I was trying to get cereal because I was hungry. After that I really didn’t want to play soccer anymore, so I decided to retire my soccer cleats forever. After this, I tried various different ranging from swim team to softball, and as you can imagine, softball stuck. When it did though, it came with my hot-headed personality showing. There was no way around it. I was also very independent, which could be a good thing in some cases, but as I got older I was required to do more group work. I just didn’t know how to.…

Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

“Just try it.” These were the words that my dad used to encourage me to try baseball. Before this moment, soccer was the only sport I played. Since I could remember, I have always enjoyed playing soccer; attending practices of my local recreational team . As a kid at the age of 7, I loved the rush of joining the kids from both teams to recklessly chase the same ball looking like a pack of headless chickens. I felt the parents had as much fun watching the game as the kids did playing the game. Despite my enjoyment of playing soccer, I was curious to find out if I would like any other sport.…

I started playing softball in fifth grade, and I loved it all with a burning passion; however I quit my senior year. It was stressful mentally, physically, and emotionally. It began to take a real toll on me. I have the body of a ninety year old as it is, and all of the endless drills were not doing my body any justice. The late nights of coming home after a game and having to eat, shower, and do homework made me extremely tired the next day. Yes, it’s a part of it, but it’s not something I wanted to continue doing.…

I started playing softball when I was eleven years old. I played for my middles school and that is when I first began to love the game. Throughout the rest of middle school all the way till now I have still played the game and I believe that I will be able to continue playing the game on into my 50’s and 60’s as long as my body allows me to continue the game. Although I may not be able to play the actual game, I could still see myself being able to play a modified form of the game so that I would be able to continue this occupation throughout my life.…

I grew up in a family where I was constantly told “girls should not play sport”. It has been very challenging for me from a very young age but other people’s opinions never stopped me doing what I wanted to do. Instead of letting it have a negative impact on me, playing sports gave me the drive and motivation to set myself challenging but realistic goals not only in my performance but goals regarding my current life affairs. As I grew older I started questioning how humans are able to carry out certain skills and movements within sport. This helped me gain an interest in trying to understand how the human body works.…

They will tell you that making these events fun or enjoyable was a challenge. In order to effectively engage kids in these lackluster activities, we must make them fun for them. I came to the realization that the kids were not always going to share my perspective, and in some cases they may fail to take notice of the endgame. No kid wants to run five laps or sprint around the bases after practice when they are fatigued and desire to go home. If making a five lap run seems like the utmost fun activity at the moment, the kids would be persuaded to follow, so that’s what I would do. Anytime you enjoy conditioning, it is a victory. At the age of 18, I still do not enjoy it. Making the activities enjoyable and fun was one of my goals, and I succeeded.…
