First Impression
Everyone has that certain someone who has touched their hearts before, you know that someone who has impacted you enough to change your outlook at life. You may be able to think of this person in your own life and how much they’ve affected you. Well throughout my life my dad has become that certain someone. Through the morals she has taught me, the great examples she has set, and the way she carries herself she has easily shaped my life and made me into the person I am today and is the reason why I’ve inducted her into the Greatest Dad Hall of Fame. Since a youngin my dad has always expected me to act in a suitable manner she expects this from me because she has taught me the values that I should live by. Ever since I been little I have always been going to church, I go to Trinity United Church of Christ. They’ve taken me here not only to worship god, but also to learn why I should stay true to my values. My mother has helped me to put god first, to forever stay in my faith, and not to be afraid to stand up for what I believe in. As I go through what we call life, I will be faced with the many temptations that the world has to offer. With what my mother has taught me I now know to never run from the person that I am, not to follow with what everyone else is doing but to be myself forming my own journey. I know I can achieve these things because my mother has set a great example on how to live respectively. Everyone has had their bad shares of life, but not everyone sets good examples for those who may be going through the same situation. My mother has always set a good example for me and my 3 brothers for she’s a project administrator for Accenture. There have been days where she has come home filled with a lot of frustration and stress. her boss could have had a bad day which caused her to have one as well, or she could have of had a whole bunch of work piled up that she haven’t caught up on yet for whatever the reason was she continues to stay strong.

    There are few relationships in my life that could compare to the complexity of the relationship that I share with my father. I grew up hearing stories of his childhood when he grew up in a military family with eleven brothers and sisters, moving from state to state in the deep humid south. I grew up idolizing him because of the crazy wacky adventures that he and his older brother (his best friend) would always be involved in. I always pictured myself in his brother’s shoes living the memories along with my father. He lived in a time where kids could run out of the house in the morning and not have to return until the moon rises, a time of peace and simplicity. In retrospect I think my dad and his brother must have the worst neighbors as they terrorized the banks of the bayous getting wrapped up into all sorts of mischief. In his stories he was presented with several choices, some good, some bad, he didn’t always make the best decisions but he always learned from them and engraved in me the importance of learning from my mistakes, a character trait that was deeply seeded into me since the day I could comprehend English. The reason that my fathers’ life lessons have stuck with me so well is because he doesn’t preach to me about good and bad, he lets me live my life and is always there to help me when I screw up allowing me to live and learn. The lessons that are most important in life are the ones you learn from your mistakes, something that my dad taught me and I’d never forget.…

Their names are Kaleel Wilson (8), Samiya Wilson (6), and Xavier Wilson (5); they are the loves of my life. If I had to identify someone who made a significant influence in my life, it would be my mother, Ms. Vernell Scott Wilson. My mother has had twelve children and I am the eighth child. When I was young I watched my mother struggle to take care of all her kids. If that left her without, and she made sure that her children were secured. On September 22, 1989, we had a terrible tragedy happen to our family. On that day in which was twenty-three years ago we lost our father in one of the most horrible storms to hit Lee County; Hurricane Hugo. My father went to our mobile home to get my brothers, after that was done he went back for a reason we never knew. He was electrocuted and he passed on that night. At the time my mom was in the hospital about to give birth to one of my youngest sisters. During that time I was only three years old, so I didn’t understand it then, but even now to this day all I know is that my father is gone. My mother has been a strong woman because she had to deal with that, and not only that, she had eleven kids left to raise alone. My mother never gave up on us, no matter how bad, destructive, and hard headed we were. My mother has a major influence in my life in so many ways. From things she went through in life, I’ve learned to never give up, trust in God, and be good at whatever it is that you put your mind to do. She taught me to don’t settle for the less, but always do your best. From her being a mother that has raised twelve kids alone she showed me that I can do it with three. There were so many times when I told my mom that I wanted to give up. She would look at me and say, “I didn’t give up on you”, that was enough for me to keep pushing and saying I can do this.
