First Cricket Game
My First Cricket Game

Cricket is the second most popular game in the world after soccer. Cricket is older than baseball and football. Cricket was seen played by two brothers first in England. Cricket is my favorite sport. When I was in 8th grade I played my first state level cricket match. At that time my coach underestimated me and put me as a 12th player in the game as fielder on Long off position which is equal too right fielder in the game of baseball but not as a hitter which I am really good at. There are 11 players in the team and 2 hitters. In cricket pitching means bowling and hitting means bating.

Toss time, we were in the dressing room preparing for our captain to send message about what we have to do, first bowling or batting. We lost the toss and opposing team choose to bat first so it’s our time to field first. As we marched into the field we saw huge crowd watching us. I was really nervous because this my first state level game. It was 20 overs match which means 6 times pitching per over match so it only took our team 95 mins to complete first innings.

As soon as, our innings got over its time to start second innings now it’s our time to bat and I was really excited and nervous at the same time. But I was 3 down in the queue which means I can only bat once 3 players got out by opposing team. Because of my excellent performance in fielding and catching balls at my position, my coach decided to put me as a 3 down in batting order. Now, 2nd innings began and we had to make 182 runs in 20 overs to win the game, which means our team has 10 outs and have score 182 runs in 120 pitches. Our strike batsmen were on the crease and they score 45 runs in 5 overs (30 pitches) where our first wicket was taken out by opposing team which means it’s 1 out now and 9 left. Then it’s second down turn their score was 88 runs in 10 overs (60 pitches) and another wicket was taking out. This two partnerships helping us to chase 182 runs target.

When colonising Australia, Britain used cricket as a colonising glue. Not only did they expect colonists to play it, they also wanted the new British citizens to play it as well. However the first documented instance of Indigenous players' involvement in cricket in Australia was at Adelaide's St Peter's College in 1854, and a decade later an all-Aboriginal team was established in Victoria's western districts and was later coached by an Australian forefather Tom Wills. It was Wills who captained that team in a match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that…

Let’s talk about India first. A team which is always has been very close to our hearts. A team which initially was looking very balanced and full of match winners is suddenly looking not more than an ordinary team. This team looks very competitive on the ground even against Ireland and Netherland. As always heavily dependent on its very strong batting lineup and very sluggish bowling lineup this team is highly vulnerable for doing a miracle anytime. They did one against South Africa. At stage they were looking very comfortable with 267-1 on the scoreboard but within no time they were on the ground defending 296. Which is by no means is a difficult score to chase down in current scenario of one day cricket. Still they again looked competitive and lost fighting. I am not questioning India’s strength with the bat. A mere fact which could be of little concern is that in most of their WC matches this season they haven’t taken a single wicket in first 10 overs with the shining new kookaburra. Even against Netherlands they were wicket less in first 12 overs. So, let’s hope they will improve as the WC gains the real momentum in the knock out stages.…

Both players played a steady game and the runs came in slowly but surely. Asif had two chances but Sadiq played a faultless game. The second wicket was down at 50. Bowlers had to be changed twice before the second wicket was captured. The next two players did not contribute much. After some brisk play on the part of the fifth and the sixth wickets the telegraph showed 90 runs for 4. The whole side was dismissed for 170. It was now lunch time.…

Also, the ground behind the wicket was level for a few yards and then sloped away rather abruptly. As a result, the bowler could not be seen by any player on the field during his run up. Thus, the blacksmith, the fast bowler, charged like ‘Vulcan and Venus Anadyomene’ and he became visible only at the last moment. The first ball landed near the long-leg and went into the hedge and four byes were signalled by the umpire. The gaffers shook their heads, called for more pints of beer and agreed that they had not seen four byes for a long time. The second ball hit the wicket-keeper’s stomach and he had to retire. Then a ball hit the left ear of a batsman and he also had to retire hurt. Another batsman hit his own wicket and was out. There was a Cambridge Blue who played a disgusting stroke and was stumped.
