The media also presents homicides and other violent crimes in a teaser type fashion (Jensen). They make the situation look more appealing than it really is. They utilize non-specifics and add far more attention to the scene than what is needed. All of this negative attention on what or two crimes give the impression that those specific crimes or crime in general is happening more frequently than it really is…
The show, though they investigate crimes, is not focused on crime. The focus is more on the relationships of the people…
One self-help television show that I have selected is Dr. Phil. Dr. Phil is a television show that started in 2002. For what I understand about the show, is that people go to the show to try to get an answer to their mental health and current living situation problem. People are interview by Dr. Phil regarding their personal and situations that are happening in their lives as well as the way people are living their lives which are not correctly view by the standard of society. At the end of the interview, Dr. Phil provides people with advises as to what people should do to resolve their problem. Dr. Phil is an approved psychologist, and thank to Oprah Winfrey he has been very successful as a host in television. Every time I used to watch the…
Cold cases are very interesting cases. Cold cases are also known as unsolved cases. Crimes that have been unsolved for many years is devastating to the families left behind. Especially, since many cases are left open for many years families are left with the question “ Is he still alive? Is she being held somewhere against her will? Will she ever return home?” The Mcstay family murders and the disappearance of Natalee Holloway are examples of cases yet to be solved.…
The audience has time to process the show and the scenes can potentially create a longer-lasting impression, as the viewer is able to space out the episodes at their leisure. However, as McNutt had mentioned, having multiple episodes where multiple reviews can accompany them, the audience becomes more critical of the shows motives and cinematographic strategies that are at play. Although this may seem natural, considering there is more material to analyze and the breaks in the episodes tend to create suspense or conclusions, this may detract from Kuenne’s original motives. Instead of being a large-scale home movie that describes all of the great values of his dear friend and also serves as a plea to correct the Canadian Bail system because of the transpired events, the mini-series may be more inviting to viewer scrutiny. Using the case of Making a Murderer, the directors had used many techniques that enhance the audience’s ideas of the accused men while also demonizing the Manitowoc County law enforcement. However, after the release and much discussion of the Netflix series, many articles had appeared that criticize the many purposeful omissions of the Avery case. Crucial evidence that was presented during the trial and further incriminates Steven Avery is left out and further…

When we think of unsolved murders, we tend to think of isolated murders targeting a single victim. Mass murders tend to be messy and difficult to conceal. How could a mass murderer get away?…
How to Get Away with Murder is one of the biggest shows for its starting season. With an average of nearly 9 million viewers each week, it holds a special place to those who faithfully tune in every Thursday. Shonda Rhimes as creator and producer one should always expect some sort of thrilling drama. This is the kind of show where there are always so many things going on that it’s sometimes hard to take heed of the plot’s impact. Rhimes truly incorporated that mind-blowing twist and shocking betrayal thus far in her two Seasons produced. While the show continues to be compelling in every episode the curiosity of what happens next is always overwhelming. But that’s what makes this show stacked among the best of the best.…
The main murders were the Tate and LaBianca murders People think that there might have been more murders than these but these were the ones that got the most attention. The Tate murders were of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent.. The LaBianca Murders were of Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary…
Serial killers have always been overdramatized in movies, TV shows, and on the news, but no one truly understand them or their disorder. Dexter is a show that truly brought this mental illness to life, and understanding it is a job in itself. Dexter is a television show with a young man who is a serial killer that kills killers. While this is an extraordinary idea, the idea can still be examined and his characteristics are plausible. Being able to understand the characteristics of an antisocial personality disorder patient, what causes the disease, and what the outcome of treatment versus no treatment are is important when evaluating a patient, and eventually trying to fully solve the problem.…
Murder or Homicide is an act that happens across the United States. There is not one state safe from it. According to the Uniform Crime Report program in 2011 California was the state with the highest amount of murders with a…
The way the CSI television show altered how evidence is gathered, crime scene investigation, and DNA testing really blew my mind. I then discovered when I became a police officer that none of these methods portrayed in the television show was real. In a real crime scene investigation, the time technology used are not as advanced as the equipment displayed in the show. Another issue with the CSI television show is the time frame it takes for an investigator to solve a crime scene. Based on my experience as a crime scene investigator, it usually takes more than 3-4 days to secure a crime scene. The evidence found at the scene usually takes a month or two to get results on DNA because it is sent off island for…
Throughout the history, authorities have made an effort to identify the serial killers’ life, define the explanation of them and also seek either what lead or encourage them to become a serial killer so that many studies are still conducted for the purpose of reaching these questions’ answers. Moreover, the topic of the serial killer is at all times found interesting by means of the people, so many films or series have made such as Dexter or Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Additively, thanks to the investigations of The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the serial killer has categorized into 3 different types which are medical, organized and disorganized serial killer.…
“After all, we all have a built in sense of justice… this built in sense of justice could be the basis of our desire to watch the bad man go down.”(hubpages.com). Going back to Bruckheimer theory of the “White Knight” coming in to save the day. We like seeing criminals get the punishment they deserve. “So why is there a need to make these?(creative episodes). The obvious explanation is that it prevents boredom. Overtime the human mind has grown to solve puzzle and to see through intricate situations.”(hubpages.com). This explains why tv dramas are what most people enjoy watching. Besides the sense of justice we have people just tend to genuinely enjoy watching crime dramas. It sometimes isn’t the need to see the cruddy guys be put away, but the enjoyment of just watching all the crime fighting and action happening that makes you scream at the TV and get all excited about. “It is a combination of us trying to satisfy our sense of justice, our desire to feel good about ourselves and our urge to have thorough knowledge of someone else’s intentions that makes us so addicted to crime series.”(hubpages.com). While others might disagree and see no interest in crime drama because in general we see enough crime happening in real life whether you read it in the newspaper, media, or even seeing in it on you local 7 news we get sick and tired of watching crime happening all around the world. So, we understand the reason for the crime happening and the violence, but sometimes some the action or events that happen in crime drama are just too fake. “Jurors today want to see some kind of high-tech crime-fighting science, because they’ve seen it on TV: DNA off an eyelash left at the scene, or a magical fingerprint detecting camera. As a prosecutor, a large part of my job was bringing the jury’s expectations into line with reality, despite these TV show.”(Leotta).…
Television in today's society is mainly focused around crime and violence. This subject matter seems to get the attention of many audience viewers whether it is a docu-drama or real life investigations about serial killers. Some of the shows that I enjoy watching that involve crime include Cops, Forensic Files, and Medium, which is a docu-drama on NBC. While watching these shows on many different occasions, I have realized that some do follow the criminal justice system while others don't…
