Third, the thesis is demonstrated through firefighter Anthony Smiljanic’s perspective. Anthony is apart of the Los Angeles Fire Department, and during all the rioting, he sees first hand, the things people say, and the way people feel. For instance, it is on Day 3 of the riot when he says, “There’s nothing to do but stare at new red, blue, or black graffiti that says, ‘F**k the Police,’ and ‘F**k the National Guard,’ and ‘Kill Whitey,’ and try not to take it personal (156) . . . I’ve never seen anything like it” (156). Smilijanic understands both sides of the riot, and tries to be completely unbiased and unprejudiced whilst doing his job - unlike the police who arguably started this whole riot. Smilijanic witnesses his superior Gutierrez when…

The Great Chicago Fire happened on the night of Oct 8-10, 1871. One legend is at a barn located on the land of Patrick and Catherine O’ Leary at 137 DeKoven Street on the city’s southwest side and the fire started when the family’s cow kicked over the lantern and it lighted the hay and the barn caught on fire. Before the Great Chicago Fire the city average was 2 fires per day. In 1997, the Chicago City Council exonerated Mrs. O’ Leary and her cow. She turned into a recluse after the fire and she died in 1895.…

Your role as a support worker would be to mainly encourage and reassure service users as well as planning in advance. Whilst out in an unfamiliar environment or in an environment where the risk of danger is higher for the service user then a support workers role is to explain and make them aware of certain dangers or hazards. Constantly monitoring the environment and the service user is key, whilst giving reassurance and guidance play a big role to make the service user feel confident and at ease.…
EMS ride along was a really good experience spent at Warren Fire Department, Station number 3. I had the opportunity to spend a day riding along with one of Advanced Life Support Squads while they provided vital emergency medical care to the citizens of Warren, MI. The station’s number 3 squad had talented and professional Firefighters/Paramedics. All were welcomed to the student nurses form Davenport University, Warren. They were friendly, professional, and ready to ask questions that I had. They made my experience an informative and enjoyable one. After I meet the crew in the morning they went into a more detailed check to show me exactly where everything is in the ambulance. This experience will help me in my future…

A female takes on the role of police officer in a male dominated profession in Armed and Dangerous. Gina Gallo was a Chicago police woman for sixteen years and found herself surrounded by the constant reminder that police work was a man’s job. In addition to the things she would see and experience on the rough streets of Chicago, she also dealt with stereotypes and discrimination that came with being a female police officer.…
Emergency response requires a chain of command. There are many different roles in the emergency response team. Public health nurses fulfill a role on this team. They must deal with situations outside their scope of practice by utilizing alternate resources. These nurses are in the community to assess needs and provide information on options. It is important public health nurses are prepared to help in responding to emergencies.…

PART ONE – What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation? I used the Friendship method; I was drawn to that method because of the person in which I choose to witness to. My son was not my first choice, but it happen just as it was supposed to. I questioned the friendship method at first, but I came to understand friendship was just a metaphor for friends, family, stranger, and anyone else whom could fit into that category. I picked my son, because I felt he was the right person at that moment to witness to. He and I were engaged in a conversation about angel. Not the angel who are in Heaven, but the angel which there was a TV show that he and I use to love to watch once upon a time. Anyway, he was watching the DVD of the show in his room. There was a part that triggered his curiosity, so he came to ask me a question about it. I knew that was my opportunity to witness to him since he was already on the page about demons. I asked my son what if all of that was true about what was going on in the show, he said some of it is true. I asked him what part he thinks is true, he responded. The part when angel lost his soul. I asked him if angel lost his soul for real what would happen. He said they showed what would happen on the show, angel became a beast named Angelis. After that answer, I asked him, can I share something with you, he said share what? How good God is. “God is a good God; He is always there for you and me. He will give you everything your heart desire, all you have to do is ask. All he asks for in return is your love and devotion to him and only him. He said, you always ask me that. Then, I asked him do he believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he answered yes. Do you ever think about giving your life to the Lord? I began to tell him; remember when I told you I received Christ as my savior? It was a life changing experience for me; all kinds of…

Mt. Iriga or also known as Mt. Asog, a 1,470 meters high volcano is one of the major mountains in the Bicol Region. Lying near the City of Iriga in Camarines Sur, this inactive volcano offers a breath-taking view of the southern mountains including Mt Isarog on the northern side of the mountain, Mt. Mayon , Mt. Malinao and Mt. Masaraga on the southern side. And if the weather is clear, you can also see Catanduanes and the Lagonoy Gulf farther south. The well renowned Buhi Lake is also located at the foot of this mountain. Buhi Lake is home to the indigenous "Sinarapan" or "Tabios" the world’s smallest commercial fish. But because of the introduction of other varieties of fishes particularly the Tilapia, the Sinarapan currently faces treats of extinction. This in-active volcano, in ancient times was known as Mt. Asog after an Agta chieftain that ruled the region. The local people also call this volcano Mt. Sumagang which means "Mountain of the Rising Sun." On the Buhi side, Mt. Iriga appears scarred because of a cavernous gully, which is actually a collapsed crater left after a violent eruption in 1641. The trek to the mountain is not that strenuous and can be made in one day. But the trek can be exhausting once the sun is up since the trails are exposed. Be prepared for the tall grasses like that of Talamitam, Sembrano & Kalisungan. From the checkpoint at Brgy. Ilian, the trek to the campsite can take around 2 to 2½ hours, and from the campsite, it will only be about 20 to 30 minutes to one of the peaks of Asog. The view of the crater and the knife-edges are a feast to one’s eye. At night, the view of the city lights below is…
