On April 21, 2014, I responded to 100 Eddie Lane, at the request of the Captain from Engine 1. Arrival at the scene by the unit was 0200 hours. At the time of the investigators arrival, the fire had been extinguished by Engine 1. I observed a wood-frame construction, two-story, basement, one-family residence. The fire was restricted to the main structure, meaning no out buildings or vehicles were involved. Access to the property is at the gravel driveway to the left and I made entry into the structure was made through the front door after documenting photos of the outside of the structure. The fire occurred during the day, which was bright and sunny with temperature at 68degrees, there was also a slight breeze at about 6mph from the n/w. The breeze would have been blowing against the backside corner of the home.…
The main points of the article were that many patrons couldn’t get out because the exits were blocked by objects or were locked and couldn’t be opened. Another main point was that they had recently installed leather along the walls that were treated with fire retardant but this didn’t help the patrons as it just created black smoke everywhere so it was very hard to see. Another main point to the article was that the fire department was delayed in responding to the structure as someone had pulled the handle at the alarm box but when the fire department arrived they only saw a car on fire until a fireman noticed smoke coming from the Cocoanut Grove. Additional alarms were set off but it took over 50 minutes to sound 5 alarms.…
The fire that was created at the World Trade Center was far greater than anyone would have anticipated and, “Despite the gravity of these doubts, the evacuation policies at the trade center assumed that the towers were sturdy and fire-resistant,” (Dwyer and Flynn 69). Considering the fact that many buildings codes were not a requirement for the World Trade Center due to its complex structure, not fireproofing the towers became more acceptable, especially because no one had thought that the towers would be brought down by a fire. After the 9/11 terrorist attack, many building designs were modified to become safer because the International Buildings Safety Codes adapted their codes in order to keep all buildings safe in case of a fire occurring. According to International Codes, as a result of the 9/11 attack, there have been some changes made to their code. Some of these changes include having a higher standard for fire resistance in high-rise buildings more than 420 feet tall and robust fire proofing for buildings more than 75 feet tall, which will be less likely to be dislodged by impacts or explosions. As a result of these changes to international building codes, there have been many preventative measures taken and it has had a major impact in making sure that more survive situations similar to the 9/11 terrorist…

Many people today are so unaware as to why we must practice and follow fire procedures. For the most part people never question how it come to be. Well it took many of people’s lives to ameliorate the world for laws to enforce a safe working environment. As to this day, there are several laws that protect the workers’ rights, workers’ environment, and several fire procedures that are enforced all around us. This did not only apply to workers and their environment but applies every place we go, even in our own homes, have safety codes that were created because of this tragic…
Forest-Fires and Oil spills are two different disaster events that have different trajectories, and require the deployment and utilization of specialized tools and equipment. Mostly, the tools utilized in attending to Forest-fires by personnel would be different from the tools that would be deployed in Oil spills, and new tools when provided to the same personnel without adequate training, in utility do create additional challenges. Where and when this process is negated, matching skill-sets are done inefficiently. Some of these includes: Deploying disaster trained personnel such as the US Coast Guard in supporting administrative positions, and in resource or planning sections. A reference case in point includes during the DWHO where the U.S Coast Guards members were inefficient due to lacking appropriate training regarding Oil-spill response and activities. Rather, U.S Coast Guards member’s services had been traditionally utilized in attending to mass rescue operations, natural disasters and national security…
The firefighters tried to imitate radiologists by coming with the conclusion that the fire started on the floor and that arson was poured in order to excite it. Given the time period, it is understandable that they could find closure so quickly given that arson had just recently been discovered and not much had been known about it. But even that doesn’t excuse how the court refused to take into account Hurst’s testimony that the fire was caused by some other means.…

Once the tragic event was over firefighters were looked at as loyalist for serving the community in the way they did. The generosity of these brave men were praised by the efforts of each willing to sacrifice their life to save another. As thousands were trying to leave, many firefighters were risking their lives to save others. Following this patriotic act, the fire service changed in many different ways. These changes include the building safety codes, which changed the standards of building codes and also showed the vulnerabilities of the buildings. Before 9/11 Building codes in the U.S focused on structural support and strength with conventional fire safety. Then…
In the 911 there were many firefighters who risked their lives to save total strangers. Of course they had a job to do, but more than that many chose to go beyond that call of duty to try and save total strangers. These brave men and women love their city and the people they serve. On that same terrible day the a brave man named Todd Beamer said the famous words “Let’s Roll” when he knew it was terrorist who took over his plane. In both cases people made decisions to risk death to try and save others. I don’t know how…
The fire department were responsible for putting out the fire and assist in the recovery efforts after the World trade center collapse. The police were helping with evacuation efforts getting people away from the buildings and helping those that were in the building to get out. There were several fire fighter unit, police and military dispatched from other states to the 9/11 crash site to help with recovery efforts. “Local police, fire, emergency medical services (EMS), emergency management, public health and medical providers, public works, and other community agencies are often the first to be notified about a threat or hazard or to respond to an incident” (FEMA…

I have chosen to write my paper on a fire that occurred on February 4th, 2007 and was initially reported at 0934 in a small town in Pennsylvania. The weather at the time of the incident included a high temperature of fourteen degrees, with a low of three degrees. Winds were between ten and twenty miles per hour and there were gusts up to thirty miles per hour. This fire killed one firefighter a 27 year old male with approximately thirteen total years experience twelve and a half of those being volunteer, it also injured another firefighter, a 38 year old male with a total of eighteen years of experience. A canopy collapsed upon the two of them trapping them under the debris. Initially two Engines and one command vehicle were dispatched to the fire. A total of five firefighters and one chief were initially on scene. Upon arrival the dispatch center was notified to request mutual aid RIT team and to initiate a recall of the departments off duty firefighters. The first to arrive was the departments own TS-2 vehicle with an additional 4 off-duty firefighters. The mutual aid RIT team arrives just as the canopy collapses trapping two firefighters. The RIT team consisted of four additional firefighters. Later a helicopter and two ambulances were requested.…
