Fire And Ice By Frost Analysis
The first time I read “fire and ice” by frost my first thought was it is about death. The poem starts of with what many people talk about whether the world will end with fire or ice. I thought the author was a little weird for writing a poem about not caring on the way he dies. Also, I thought it was funny the fact that his last name is frost and he prefers to die with fire. My response changes after my analysis because I realize that the poem seems to be about his romantic desire and his experience with hatred. What could be happening in a poem is a man who realizes how love but also hate could both end the world. The emotions are very strong. The speaker is a guy. The author means fire and ice as emotions. There is a comma used to separate the fire and ice as they are not the same yet can do the job the same which would be extinction of everyone and everything on earth. The lines 3-4 “From what I’ve tasted from desire, I hold with those who favor fire” the author states he chooses fire over ice. The author has placed desire as fire because desire is a hot emotion. The word desire is considered hot like fire because it relates to the body as in romantic or sexual desire. He says “From what I’ve tasted” meaning that he’s had a small experience. He knows how powerful of a feeling desire is. The line 5 says “But if I had to perish twice” meaning if he had to leave this world another time. The idea of that is peculiar because it is not even certain the world in going to end one time. The lines 6-8 say “I think I know enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is also great”. This line lets us know that the speaker has also experienced ice as in a cold emotion and knows that it can also destroy you as well as fire a hot
