Final Verdict
1. 26th February finally saw the division of Andhra Pradesh, after a lot of deliberations and turmoil in the Parliament. With the advent of this new state, the states of the north east are experiencing unrest due to a raise in the tempo of their statehood demand. After the general elections, how would the situation play out and what is your take on its conclusion?
Ans- The Congress concession has inspired regional leaders to seize the moment and use the run-up to next year’s parliamentary election as leverage to drive home their claims for separate statehood. While the re-emergence of these campaigns seeking to redraw India’s internal political map – from Gorkhaland in the east to Harit Pradesh in the north – is unlikely to lead to more new states ahead of the poll, few doubt they will generate plenty of turbulence. These issues could well be an important part of the bargaining in coalition formation after the elections.
"Development is a prime concern behind the demands, but not always. The question of ethnic identity is also a prime issue at times," Arunabha Ghosh, professor for political science in Rabindra Bharati University, told IANS." As for ethnic identity, in a multi-ethnic country like India, you cannot have exclusive zones for each and every community."
Though almost all these tribes enjoy autonomy in the form of Sixth Schedule under Indian Constitution or Autonomous District Councils. In order to address or solve this separatism problems, Government/NGOs should list out the grievances by these tribal people and try to convince to address or solve these issues with concrete steps with time deadline using SMART formula ( where S : Specific, M : Measurable, A : Attainable/Achievable, R : Relevant , T : Time bound) instead of failed experiments with autonomous councils. We would like to add one more wort for T : Transparency. Autonomous councils have been accused of rampant corruptions recently. People should be educated using road shows, SMS bulk

In 1959, sociologist, C. Wright Mills, had said that in order to think critically about the world around us, we need to use our sociological imagination in order to see the connections of our personal lives to the larger groups on history (Conley, 2011). Mills states that this is the idea of an individual being able to understand their own life experiences by inserting themselves in their own time period and ability to gauge happenings in life by being aware of individuals surrounding you in the same circumstances (Conley, 2011).…

If countries can be defined by their socio-cultural make-up alone it would be a difficult task to define India and its subsequent ‘Indianness’. Given its multi-cultural set-ups, where each culture and its sub-culture is a separate world of its own, it is not only presumptuous but narrow-minded to define national identity in such a manner. It cannot be based on class distinctions either. If on one hand we have the destitute scavenging for food in dust-bins, the…

Democracy, a political system in which people elect the representatives of our government and the Indian subcontinent is recognized as one of the largest democratic systems in the world. Every vote has equal weight and every voice is heard - or so we think. Jammu and Kashmir is one of the many states that is represented by this massive form of government but its people’s anguish are often not headed by the authorities. The only way to satiate the Kashmiri people is secession – Kashmir must withdraw from Indian rule to end the decades of violence and bloodshed that has occurred since the India-Pakistan Partition of 1946.…

    British Paramountcy in India

To begin with the first. The basis of the claim made by the States for a right to declare themselves independent lies in the Statement of 12th May 1946 issued by the Cabinet Mission in which they say that the British Government could not and will not in any circumstances transfer paramountcy to an Indian Government which means that the rights of the States which follow from their relationship to the Crown will no longer exist and that all the rights surrendered by the States to the paramount power will return to the States. The Statement of the Cabinet Mission that the Crown could not transfer paramountcy is obviously not a statement of political policy. It is a statement of law. The question is, is this a correct statement of the law as it applies to the States ?…

On 30th july 2013, congress working commitee passed a resolution for creation of telangana that lead to the end of long time combat for those who have campaigned for the statehood. As there is a saying by martin luther king "All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem", in the same way the telangana resolution has started the bickering over formation of new states.Though separate telangana state was first conceived in 1953, the fact that region spoke same language as the rayalaseema and coastal andhra become basis for formation of indias first linguistic state when unified andhra was created in 1956 after the passing of state reorganisation act of 1956 despite the state reorganisation comission final analysis recommending against the merging as the then central government led by jawahar lal nehru feared for creation of inward looking states that would imperil consolidation of nationhood and can encourage pariochalism and separatism but the government unified andhra with the provision of safeguard of telangana in form of gentlemans agreement. But unfortunately promises were unkept and there was violation of the agreement, slowly feeling starts developing in people of telangana that they were being discriminated against in employment and education which follows the two agitations in the year 1969 and 1972., later the telangana issue again came into limelight with the formation telangana rashtra samhiti under leadership of K Chandrashekhar in 2001.the upa govt on 9th dec 2009 took decision of telangana because of pressure built up by indefinite fast by TRS leader K Chandrashekhar, but the decision soon ignited violent protest in form of samaikyandhra movement because of which government put this issue on hold on dec 23 ,2009. After many more agitation that follows finally the govt declared it as 29th state on 30th july 2013 but it came with hues and cries in other parts of the country like assam where all bodo…

In India today hardly any of the tribes exist as a separate society. They have been absorbed in varying degrees into the wider society of India. The process of absorption has been going on for centuries. In fact, no tribe in India today has a completely separate political boundary.[3] There were two congruent processes at work in the country, both at the larger and local levels. Currents of ideology swept across the country right from the ancient period onwards, and, there were also the formations, ways of life and aspects of material culture, which were local in their dimensions. So, when we refer to the mainstream of Indian society and culture, we are recognizing ideologically, the dual aspect of our society. The recognition is of the twin processes of uniformity and unity on the one hand, and, a larger canvas of diversity and plurality on the other, embedded in our existence as a people, as a country. Hence, in this broad historical and civilizational context, tribes are relatively isolated and backward communities of our country.[4]…
