For 20 years, I sought only this day. Nothing else existed... until I saw you. Then everything changed. I fell in love with you Evey. And to think I no longer believed I could.“ This quote shows us that V has finally regained the ability to love, which is something he thought has long been lost. This is due to his frightening and struggle filled love which he thought had rid him of all emotion but hate. This change shows us that the relationship between Evey and V has allowed V to regain the emotion of love which also means he has regained his humanity and no longer lives only for hate and revenge. I believe the director used these film techniques on purpose to show to the viewers that the relationship between Evey and V has drastically changed both of their personalities and has influenced many of their actions during their time together. This teaches us that it is in our human nature to trust someone who has been with you through everything and it is also in our nature to want to spend our last moments with the people that we love. This act of human nature is seen through both our main characters, V and…

A camera, a director, an actor is all one needs to make a movie, that may be something the audience believes. There’s a science to this, camera angles, sound, and lighting/color that make up a movie. As a film director in Hollywood, Tim Burton must pay attention to these simple key factors that create his films. Tim Burton, a greatly respected film director, creates gothic, bittersweet films ranging from friendship to young love. As Burton inspired many, he himself was inspired by the author Edgar Allan Poe, whose grim side is reflected in his writing. He was also inspired by the American actor, Vincent Price, who played dark characters on screen since the early 1940s. The dark, unusual crazy, quirky characters and settings are reflected well…

Then Terri said “He beat me up one night (170).” This form of love would be stated as Eros love. Eros love, in my opinion is the deepest form of love because it is an emotion and physical way of showing love. In the short story, What We talk about when we talk about love, Raymond carver shows this type of love in various ways. This form of loves also ties into any type of love that a spy believes they are showing. One occasion of a spy showing love like Terri and her ex-husband was the showing of James Bond in the film Goldeneye. In particular is the scene of Bond and Xenia. Bond is relaxing in a spa type of area and Xenia comes into the same room as him showing him a lot of sexual attention. Xenia is also a spy and in this scene she is doing this to obtain important information from him. They both kiss and fight until Bonds stops all of the nonsense. This scene validates the fact that a spy cannot be trusted or capable of love. Xenia went in the room for one reason which wasn’t to have a good time with Bond. Again this showed the form of Eros love, but it showed that a spy cannot love this deeply. It showed that a spy cannot care for someone as deeply as they care for their work. Another example from What We talk about when we talk about love is the relationship between the young couple. This young couple, Laura and Nick, were full of love because they just started…

The four fundamentals of film are mis-en-scéne, cinematography, editing and sound. The mis-en-scéne includes the setting, costumes, make-up, lighting and staging. It is defined as “the visual elements on the stage and includes depth, height, and width. Although the precise meaning of mise-en-scène with regard to film is disputed, it generally refers to what is seen in the film frames throughout the film or to what is seen in one single shot or frame.” The next element is cinematography and that is the photography, camera framing, duration, the shot, camera angle and framing. “Editing permits the filmmaker to relate any two points in space through similarity, difference, or development and therefore controls the narrative of the film by controlling the sequence of images we see.” The final element is sound in cinema it takes three forms: speech, music and noise. The sounds and their relationship to each other represent deliberate choices by the filmmaker to create a certain effect.…

The construction of the concept of love is influenced not only by the character development throughout the film; however it is explicitly connected to masculine or feminine gender roles. For example, in Beauty and the Beast, the protagonist Belle, is beautiful (long hair, full red lips, doe eyes), selfless, nurturing and obedient. The antagonists, the Beast and Gaston are hypermasculized: exaggerated muscles, violent actions and self-serving. Additionally, the Beast and Gaston spend the majority of the film trying to coerce Belle (an object) into loving them, or at the very least, marrying them. Western culture’s prescriptive love between two people is outlined: an attractive women who has no known interest in men, can be coerced through violence and aggression to come to love men with violent tempers and disproportionate…
