Film Review - Twilight
The film Twilight tells the story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), a typical moody teenager from Phoenix, Arizona who has recently moved to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with Charlie, her father. She attends Forks High School where she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattison) and unknowingly changes the course of her life from that point on. In time Bella comes to the realisation that Edward and his family are vampires. They have lived for over a thousand years between them but have never once come across the relationship that forms between Bella and Edward. This supernatural drama directed by Catherine Hardwicke, with its engaging storyline and action packed drama is set to engage the viewer from start to finish.
The visual elements are like no other. The first scene begins with a simple shot of deer drinking from a small pond while the camera is from the view point of a predator, stalking its prey. The low lying, unsteady camera angles add to the suspense of the hunt. The atmosphere is then cut with the deer being attacked by the mystery creature. This whole scene is narrated by Kristen Stewart’s voice reciting an extract from the novel that reads ‘I'd never given much thought to how I would die. But dying in place of someone I love seems like a good way to go.’ It gives a subtle hint to the underlying storyline which comes to light as the film progresses. This scene starts the movie off with a bang and gives the audience an indication of the tone and plot of the film. It forces you to question what the connection is between this bizarre opening and the rest of the movie.
Costume plays a big role in character development and the styles and eras of costume help to distinguish between the different types of vampires as well as the humans. Most of the vampires, whether they’re good or evil wear period clothing and it is generally affected by the century that they were reborn in. Human characters including Bella and Charlie are seen wearing dark and

In the monolauge of “Twilight Los Angeles, 1992” Anna Deaver Smith, the Author and actor of the play states “It is not an answer. It is not a solution. I am first looking for the humanness inside the problems, or the crises. This spoken word is evidence of humanness. Perhaps the solution comes further down the road.” When Smith says this, she means that she is looking for peoples “Humanness”, as in the things that make up human beings, such as thoughts and emotions when in the crises to tell the process of how and why the problem occurred. In this Smith is not offering any specific solution. Rather she is documenting the way different individuals dealt with the riots which offers individual solutions to the problems smith dramatizes, but not solutions to the…

The continuous changes of vampires have taken the vampire legend from something feared to something desired. Between Dracula and Twilight it has been over a hundred years. “Good Night, and Good Luck” is not your typical Hollywood film full of conventional action, cliff hangers, and romance. It is however a masterpiece of its time, about an era that many Americans try to forget. George Clooney, an esteemed American Actor and director of this film tried to capture a period of time known as the McCarthy Era where the “red scare” or fear of communism allowed the Senator from Wisconsin to try and convict suspected traitors. Its historical accuracy with real footage, quotations, and individuals, along with the distinct characteristics of Edward R. Murrow by actor David Strathairn are remarkably accurate. The film takes place virtually entirely in the CBS newsroom and is during the early days of television broadcasting in the 1950s. Edward R. Murrow was and always will be a celebrated broadcasting journalist and in this film we see he and his dedicated staff opposing Joseph McCarthy’s harsh methods. We were clearly reminded both subtly and bluntly throughout the film that doing such things during this time was very dangerous with the loss of advertisers, threats from military colonels, O’Brian newspaper attacks, and Don Hollenbeck’s possible suicide. Even the seemingly irrelevant fact that Shirley and Joe Wirshba feared having their secret marriage discovered highlighted the feelings America was having at the time. When the CBS program vocalized its view on McCarthy as shown with Murrow’s words of “but the line between investigating and persecuting is a very fine one, and the Junior Senator from Wisconsin has stepped over it repeatedly,” the fire was started. Through actual footage of McCarthy responding to Murrow’s claims, we see just the methods the Senator used with falsely accusing and labeling any criticizer as a communist or a communist sympathizer. It was a great device to begin and end the film with a speech Murrow gave in 1958 where he explains that our flaw is to…

When comparing the book Twilight, written by Stephanie Meyers, with the movie Twilight, screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg and produced by Catherine Hardwicke, there are multiple visual differences between the two. Some important scenes were changed or even omitted from the original text, leaving noticeable gaps in the movie’s plot. There are big and important differences, which are obvious, while there are also less important differences between them such as names and small missing details. The most important differences between the book and movie were when Bella tells Edward she knows he is a Vampire and when Edward saves Bella from Tyler’s van in the beginning. In reading the book before seeing the movie the phrase “The book is always better than the movie,” is proven true with Twilight.…
