The movie I chose was Legally Blonde. Just like anyone else Elle Woods wanted to be accepted or like by someone. Rather if that’s by their parent(s), friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend. Elle was a normal young lady, who is petite, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Not only did she have the looks, but she was also rich. But she portrayed as a dumb blonde. So once her boyfriend broke up with her, Elle went and join Harvard Law School, in order to get Warner back. Once into Law School, you can’t miss all the disputes, self-disclosure, and power amongst each characters. In my paper, I will share my opinion on what the movie is showing about communication, analyze the role of communication between each characters and their relationship, as well as power and conflict issues.…
Bridesmaids is a terrifically funny, smart, and emotional ensemble comedy. Some may say it’s the female version of The Hangover, while others may think it’s quite similar to Bride Wars. This movie pulls off the amazingly uncanny trick of being both brutal and gentle at the same time. I highly recommend this movie to all audiences over the age of 17. The unexpected truth of being a bridesmaid is revealed, but in the end, Kristen Wigg (Annie) persuades you that there is a greater light at the end of the tunnel. Despite the chaos, lifelong friendships end up being what truly matters.…
The movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, is about two people from different cultures and how they come together to be married. Toula Portakalous, is a thirty year old, socially awkward shy women who works as a waitress in her family owned restaurant. She has never been in a proper relationship and her family wants nothing more than for her to get married to a Greek man, but after years of trying to get her to date they have slowly given up hope. After Toula takes a job at her aunt’s travel agency, she meets Ian Miller and falls in love. Unfortunately, the only problem with Ian is that he is not Greek and is a vegetarian which is not acceptable for Toula’s Greek family.…
“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is a charming romantic comedy that explores cultural differences in a combination of adorable romance and cute humor. The story revolves around Toula, a thirty-year-old Greek American single woman, who lives with her family in the suburb of Chicago. Like many obedient Greek daughters, she works in her family’s business, a restaurant called “Dancing Zorba’s.” Toula belongs to a traditional collective upbringing where all good daughters are expected to marry from their ethnic background. However, she struggles with her father’s limited ambitions for her and she longs for something else in life. She enrolls in college and takes computer classes. With the computer diploma under her belt, a rebellious Toula emerges. She manages her aunt’s travel agency and starts dating Ian Miller, a white high school English teacher. They date secretly for a while, before she has the courage to introduce him to her family. Her father is livid over her dating a non-Greek. The climax of the story occurs when both sides try to adjust to each other. While Ian has to let go of his rigid white individualistic upbringing and learn to accept her collective big family and Greek traditions, Toula has to come to terms with her own identity. My Big Fat Greek Wedding not only exposes the cultural difference between the individualism of Ian and his family and the collectivism of Toula and her family, it also offers a wide array of misconceptions in interpersonal communication. Collectivism and individualism, culture and language and culture's influence in the development of the self concept are highly visible in every scene of the movie.…

Comedic movies combine clever dialogue with superb actors and unique cinematography to stir up good feelings in the audience. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is a classic comedy film that has the audience laughing throughout the entire movie. The movie tells the story of Ian and Toula and their interesting and hilarious journey to marriage. Ian comes from a very conservative home with two shy parents and no extended family. Toula comes from a very large, loud, Greek family. Once they fall in love, they must work on blending their two very different families together in order to make the relationship work. During this scene, Toula has invited Ian and his parents for a “quiet dinner to meet her parents”. However, her parents take this as another opportunity to gather the entire family together to dance, eat, and celebrate. When Ian’s parents arrive, they are horrified at the party scene that they see on Toula’s front yard with music, dancing, and dinner roasting over an open fire.…
In this paper, I am going to be comparing and contrasting the movie version and the novel entitled “The Accidental Tourist.” First, when one begins to read the book, they will notice that the opening scene takes place in a car on a rainy day. During this pivotal scene Sarah Leary asks Macon if he remembered what he said to a comment Sarah had said. She said “’I said to you the other day, I said, ‘Macon, now that Ethan’s dead I sometimes wonder if there’s any point to life.’ Do you remember what you answered?’ ‘Well not offhand,’ Macon said. ‘You said, ‘Honey, to tell the truth, it never seemed to me there was all that much point to begin with.’ Those were your exact words.’” Then she later tells Macon she wants a divorce. But, when one watches the movie, they would be deceived in two ways. First, Macon, the main character, is flying in an airplane and a man named Lucas Loomis, who does not appear until much later in the book, is with him. Secondly, if you wait a little while, you would see that Sarah and Macon are at home when they have the conversation that leads to Sarah’s divorce announcement. When I saw that I was hoping this was no indication of how the rest of the movie was going to be. But it was.…
Explain two of the main ideas/themes revealed in the film you have studied and show how these have been conveyed…
My audience for this essay is the young students at Enterprise State Community College, who enjoy a good love story about young love. I hope my essay will tell the key points of the similarities and differences of two major love stories that became movies in the end of the twentieth century, and open their eyes to what makes a love story. That is not just the good times, but the hard problems that come with life. Life is easier having someone to deal with the hard problems beside you. Both these movies tell the difficulties of real love and I hope my essay will attract my audiences hearts.…
My thesis: Although Coppola’s attitude as a stubborn filmmaker and risk-taker has gotten him far in his career, his carelessness has caused immense problems. The reason I chose this as my thesis is because Coppola rarely seems to learn much from his past mistakes, especially when it comes to finances. Sometimes his attitude can lead to a good outcome, but other times, it can blow up in his face. A prime example of his poor judgement is Apocalypse Now, which not only went over budget, but the prolonged shooting of the film affected practically everyone on set, physically and mentally.…
A common theme occurring multiple times throughout the stories is the connections of people, amidst a wide treatment of human relationships which has influenced film largely. Movies such as; “Schindler’s List”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Empire of the Sun” and “Amistad” add humanity back into the subject of War and slavery. These historical period movies keep the events from being forgotten, especially because of their popularity, along with reminding new generations of what happened and how people viewed that event, at the time when it was released. Through the years, these historical topics have been about facts and dates and events, but…
Analyze a movie with regard to what we have learned about sexuality. Your assignment should not be written like a general film review found in the campus paper or other newspaper, but instead written from the perspective of a student studying the sociology of gender. What does the movie teach us about men, women, and sexuality? How does these lessons relate to the materials we’ve read and ideas we’ve discussed in class? Be sure to pick one or two specific concepts, ideas, or points raised by particular readings or class discussions to highlight in your write-up (for example, you might talk about compulsory heterosexuality, “hooking up,” sexual double standards, the principle of homogamy, etc.).…
In five years, I could see myself working at SCVNGR/LevelUp in the Marketing Department because I would feel a sense of professionalism while remaining productive towards the mission. This “mission” features the fostering of customer loyalty where consumers who use this easy-to-use app can earn rewards such as discounts for restaurants. People travel to different places, fulfill challenges and earn points that lead to these prizes. While the concept seemed marketable, the revenue decreased, which led to LevelUp, in 2011, a mobile payment method that is easy, efficient, and incentivizes customers by issuing discounts.…
There are certain scenes in films where the director is able to bring out the true character of an individual. In American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes, the director places two scenes in the film which are shown to have a contrasting effect. Lester Burnham (played by Kevin Spacey) shows a marvellous act through these two scenes where his attitudes are different in each one, due to the life changing events he comes across, altering his attitude. In this essay, four elements will be analysed to compare the first dinner scene to the second. Between these two scenes, we identify a change to one individual who allows us to see change within the family.…
Art Films are different from conventional Hollywood productions. These types of films attempt to have the audience explore different themes with a new perceptive. By using symbolism, setting, color and time periods. This film contained many symbolic scenes that displayed a deeper meaning. Such as the meaning of life and death and the sprits people become after death that the film used, such as Frankenstein as an example. The director put a lot of artistic viewpoints into this film so that the audience could look for symbolism and find deeper meaning to the film he created. These symbolic scenes for example; Teresa burning the love letter, the children in the school resembling bees and Fernando relating his life to the bees. Victor Erice is the director of the spirit of the beehive. Erice directed short films while he was in film school; he was also a film critic at the Spanish journals. He then earned an international award for the Spirit of the Beehive which was his first official full length film. Erice creates his films by putting the viewer’s imagination to life, precise observations to detail and applying deep symbolization to his films. Erice makes it clear he puts a lot of thought and time into his film, to not only make a good film, but to get inside the audiences mind and make them think outside the box. He points out in his interview that he has a unique and different style and he gets his point across to the audience in a subtle but artistic way.…
