PROMISCUITY

Teen promiscuity has been a very big problem in our society today. Especially, in this last decade, more and more teen girls are losing their virginity at younger ages, having multiple sex partners at early ages, and more teen girls are having babies. But why? The causes of teen promiscuity can’t be very clear, but I feel that some of the main causes are low self-esteem, wanting to fit in, and ignorance.
More and more teen girls are becoming promiscuous. A main reason for this is low self-esteem. Lots of girls feel very insecure about themselves; one way that they can feel beautiful is by having multiple sex partners. A lot of the time when I watch Jenny Jones, she has issues on teen promiscuity. Many of these girls are overweight. They feel that if they have sex with whoever wants it, then they will be liked. I feel that the media plays a big role in teens having low self-esteem. Young girls read magazines such as Seventeen, Vibe, YM and all they see are skinny women. They watch music videos such as hip hop videos and see all these beautiful women in bikini’s and hearing the men say that’s the type of women they want, and of course this will bring any young girl who doesn’t look like that feel unattractive

Accurately assessing people's sexual behavior is difficult, since there are strong social and personal motivations, depending on social sanctions and taboos for either minimizing or exaggerating reported sexual activity. Extensive research has produced mathematical models of sexual behaviour comparing the results generated with the observed prevalence of sexually transmitted infections to statistically estimate the probable sexual behaviour of the studied population.
Experiments in 1978 found that the great majority of men were willing to have sex with women they did not know, of average attractiveness, who propositioned them. No woman, by contrast, agreed to such propositions from men of average attractiveness. While men were in general comfortable with the requests, regardless of their willingness.

The number of sexual partners an individual has varies widely within a population. A 2007 nationwide survey in the United States found that the median number of female sexual partners reported by men was seven and the median number of male partners reported by women was four. It is possible that men exaggerated their reported number of partners, women reported a number lower than the actual number, or a minority of women had a sufficiently larger number than most other women to create a mean significantly higher than the median, or all of the above. Twenty-nine percent of men and nine percent of women reported to have had more than 15 sexual partners in their lifetimes.A small percentage of the studied population have more partners than the average man or woman, and a smaller number of people have fewer than the statistical average. An important question in the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections is whether or not these groups copulate mostly at random (with sexual partners from throughout a population) or within their social groups.

In 1994 a study in the United States, which looked at the number of sexual partners in a lifetime, found that 20% of heterosexual men had only one partner, 55% had two to twenty partners, and 25% had more than twenty partners.More recent studies have reported similar numbers.Early studies found men with homosexual contact were more likely to have a very large number of sexual partners, but a 1989 study found a very high number of partners (over 100) to be present though rare in that demographic. The difference was attributed to sampling problems with earlier studies, and the influence of AIDS disease.
The words womanizer, playboy, stud, player, ladies' man, lady killer, may be used in reference to a man who has romantic affairs or sexual relations, or both, with women and will not marry or commit to a relationship.
