Farmer’s jobs were very grueling and tiring. Farmers worked from sunrise to sunset growing food and making other products for their families and their lord (Cels 8). First they would use a harrow, a heavy wooden frame with iron teeth, to break up the soil (Cels 11). They would first planted the grain by scattering seeds on the plowed soil (Cels 11). The farmers then cut the grain when it is ripe with a sickle (Cels 11). The grain was then tied together into sheaves and placed into a barn on the manor (Cels 11). The grain is then dried in a granary to protect it from animals (Cels 11). The grain is then beaten out of the stored wheat with flails (Cels 11). Religion has a major influence on medieval society. Western Europeans were united by Christianity (Hinds 14). The church brought some order to the chaos of European life (Richardson). This came from the Great Chain of Being which was a basic notion that everything in the universe has a set, unchangeable place in the proper order of things (Richardson). God was above all, Mankind was next, Man was above woman which was supported bIt became apart of feudalism that explained where everything was so it brought order (Lenehan).
