FESTRUARY

It was that time of the year again when the ‘engi-nerds’ let their hair down and soaked in the revelry. The pleasant weather of spring filled everyone with zeal and vigor as the college geared up for its festive season in the month of February. The term ‘festruary’ aptly described the atmosphere.
Time of enjoyment, reveling, sense of celebration and an urge to bring a positive change in the society-these words aptly describe the spirit of Engifest, the annual cultural fest of Delhi Technological University. From a modest beginning years ago to being one of the most awaited cult fest in north India, Engifest has come a long way. Engifest 2010 was a four day extravaganza, attracting thousands of students from all over India, especially Delhi. With a theme ‘Towards a Green Future’, Engifest 2010 was inaugurated on 16 February by Mr. Anand Prakash, Principal Secretary, Training & Technical Education, Govt. of Delhi and Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU. Also present at the occasion were Ms. Reela Hota, eminent Odissi performer, educator & producer and Prof. Bhuvnesh C. Goswami, distinguished alumnus of DCE, 1959 batch. A tree plantation drive was held on the occasion to mark the beginning of the fest.
At the event Mr. Prakash aptly said, “Even the small steps taken today will go a long wayin maintaining our ecological balance”. This was followed by an ebullient performance by Ms. Reela Hota which left the audience gratified. But the mood of the evening was set by the Kavi Sammelan which left everyone in splits. This surely was a stress buster for the students and teachers alike.
The second day started with a plethora of literary events – Spellbound, Vocab-Fun, Just-A-Minute to name a few. Students proved their creative skills and artistic mettle in Sketch Skirmish, the sketching competition. But the most anticipated event of the day (and in fact the whole Engifest!) was Paridhan - the fashion parade. After all, how often do you get to see

Firstly we’ve done our SCOT analysis and we figured out all of our strengths, opportunities, challenges and threats. We figured out that one of our strengths is that this is the first time that a fashion show is being held in the school so it will be a new experience for us and everyone in the school. It also involves the whole school and gives a sense of, ‘common unity’.…

Yet, in similar subject matter to Suzuki, Gandhi presents a need for change, exercising ideas of social equality, the environment and unity. She elevates her audience to go beyond limitations of male superiority, persuading her audience to make change, allowing Gandhi’s voice to come through as empowering. Being cultivated in a political context whilst being the prime minister, she expresses a sense of patriotism, acknowledging “friends of India” personifying India into having “the quality of India herself”. She makes her purpose clear by the accumulative listing of “inequality and injustice between the affluent and developing countries…the need to protect this our only Earth, from rapacity and exploitation… of ancient truths regarding our own utter dependence on the balance of nature and its resources.”. Gandhi makes light of these issues with frequent use of emotive language to convey her awareness and create emotional rapport with her audience, engaging them into a different insight of the world.…

It was just another cold winter day in rural Minnesota when I entered my language arts class in the morning. Being that it was the first class of my day, the sun was yet to rise, which added to the overall tired mood that every student conveyed. The classroom itself was an attempt at making the school cheerful, but no amount of posters could mask the weary, beige walls behind them. As for the students, we projected our worn out mood by wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts. Thus, it was a typical, dreary day in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.…

My love for art and fashion has developed since my childhood. I had taken continuous external art lessons (such as charcoal drawing and traditional Chinese painting for years) in China and joined Art Club and Photographic Society after I came to Singapore. During my tour to Paris and Rome, I was first time stunned by the cities’ perfect fusion of fashion and its ambience. Just like what Grace Codington said in the documentary September Issue, I always kept my eyes open during the trip, because “inspiration for fashion is everywhere”.…

Every weekend there is a party somewhere. Whether it is out at the "river road," the lake, or even at someone's house, it is the "cool place" to be. Years ago, I arrived at the Halloween dance, at the school, not wearing a costume but expecting to have a great time with all of my friends dancing and listening to music. I overheard someone talking about a party that was going to start at Nick's house. Being invited to go with all of my friends, I didn't want to be the wimp of the group, so I decided to go along. I drove away from the school thinking that I would only stay for a little while at the party.…

This was not the first day of school that I’ve expected. Everything here is just so different from what I have been told in the past. Students mocking the “honorable” traditions, making fun of the slogans, I don’t think I will get used to living here. Ever since brother attended this school, father and mother had been telling me all the wonderful things about this school and how they hope for me to one-day study here. It is just so frustrating to have such a brilliant of a man as my brother, everyone is expecting me to live up to his accomplishments and even surpass pass him; which I know that I will never be able to do. There was something interesting that happened though. This new English teacher Mr. Keating, he is just so different and odd but yet fascinating. I’ve never met a teacher quite like him before and to tell the truth, I’m actually quite excited to see him tomorrow. Today, he taught us an important life lesson, to always Carpe Diem, “Seize The Day”.…
