Feeling Trapped
At the age of 12 in August of '93, I moved to Montana to start my first year of 7th grade. My dad stayed in Connecticut to finish packing up the house and I was on an airplane to meet his girlfriend and her son. I remember not being given much notice about their plan to buy a house out there, but I do well with change and was looking forward to seeing a new state. School started well and I easily made friends with other students. I'd also gotten to see the potential new house and loved it!
My dad's girlfriend and I, however, never had a good relationship. I had known her about 5 years prior to the move. During that time, her behavior towards me consisted mainly of disapproving facial expressions and random verbal abuse. She did physically hurt me on two occasions, a fact that was not believed by my father. Within a month after moving, she came into my room, and I awoke to her trying to kill me by suffocation and strangulation. I managed to defend myself and after a series of events, ended up in foster care until my dad could fly out to get me. The case was dropped due to (what I was told) lack of evidence and incredibility because of my age. I am still unaware of why this occurred and why my father was in disbelief of such a tragic event involving his only child. I had never been a dishonest person and it wasn't an issue of "wanting to go back home" (the authorities questioned my being home sick). The police told me to go home and not tell anyone what happened. I thought about many ways of revenge and negative retaliations, which I didn't pursue. I questioned additional police, lawyers and members of my own family, none of whom provided help. I feel like not much was done in my defense and the truth was

During that time we lived in a studio in my grandpas house. The school i attended at the time was Dwight eisenhower elementary. Everyone thought i was a genius because i got 4 diplomas at the trimester awards while everyone got two or one. What i remember the most from living with my grandpa was every weekend he used to knock at our door at 7 am just to come talk to us. It was annoying because he wouldn't stop until we opened the door. He was always so eager to spend time with his grandkid. It was nice being the only child, but then came 2006 and i was no longer the queen of the house. Before i knew it in 2008 we had another package included into my family. Our family was growing rapidly so my parents decided to move out into a much bigger house, which is where i live today. I moved to a new school called carrillo ranch elementary. Everything was pretty smooth, no worries, no stress, and easy going such as in the beginning of a roller…

Throughout my life, I have moved three times, lived in two different states, and been to five different schools. From these experiences, I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of different people, for this I am very grateful. I consider my first memories to have started when my family and I moved to Overland Park Kansas. The excitement of living in a new neighborhood, and house, was almost unbearable for my younger self. Once we moved in, I had a chance to explore the new surroundings and meet some of my best childhood friends. I also enjoyed six wonderful years in Elementary school. However, once middle school started, I observed the adoption of a more competitive atmosphere and the abandonment of standard teaching methods. This shift…

One perk was that we were only less than a mile away from school so we could walk to it.After deciding on our house we made the long haul up to the house we were currently living in which was a two level red house with two rooms but a couple extra one for office space and play rooms. We had to start packing because we would move there in a couple months. We pack every day taking breaks every now and then and we were loading up the moving van with the big stuff that needed to go down to IL first. We had some help loading by my dad's boss Greg and some of my other family members but on the day we were working it started to rain. It rained really hard and even hailed and we had to cover up our items with tarps and while moving the couch my dad leg got hurt which was bad. After the storm we finished packing up and made the trip down to Illinois.Once we got to our new house we started to unpack the two trucks with our stuff. It was a little sad to see that some of our glass mirrors and other stuff broke but in the end most of our stuff made…

I moved to Colorado when I was about 4 or 5 when my Mother married this wonderful man who raised me to be the man I am today. It may sound strange but I loved the idea of growing up in two states because it gave me the wonderful oppurtunity to see the Great Rockies of Colorado and the Great Plaines of Illinois. When I was younger I moved between the states about every 2 or 3 years so half my education is in Illinois while the other half was in Colorado. Growing up in Colorado I had some incredible times like My brothers and I would spend hours in the summer digging in the back yard trying to see if we could actually get to China (never did) , while in the winters we would spend hours in the front yard building Igloos and slides when it snowed about 4ft. In Illinois the summers were equally amazing we would spend the days swimming at the local pool while we would spend the nights outside of U.S. cellular stadium, when the White Sox were good, a couple blocks down watching the fireworks go off either after a home run or at the end of the game. The winters in Illinois were brutally cold but that still didn't stop us from playing some hardcore tackle football at the High School or sledding down some insanely steep hills. These childhood memories will just keep getting fonder and fonder with time.…

Moving to Texas was gave me a completely different outlook on life. I was coming from a place where the average temperature was about 75 to a place where it was warm all year, including the winter. In Oregon I was able to experience all four seasons; spring, summer, fall, and winter, but Texas only had three: summer, winter, and August. I loved my life in Oregon with my friends and family, but my new life in Texas had…

When I was a little girl my cousin raped me. I never reported it to the police because I was so terrified. A few years later I was raped again by my best friends brother. I thought for the longest time there was something wrong with me. I felt like it was my fault. After years of trying to forget about the rapes, I was finally putting my life back together. I wanted to move on and forget everything happened. At the age of sixteen, my step dad tried to molest me. I contacted the police and told them what happened. They really did not do anything like they should have, so I decided to contact Child Protective Services, (CPS). The woman who took my case found it fit to remove me from the home and place me in my dads custody. I thought the nightmares were over and I could move on with my life. On July 15, 2012 my ex-boyfriend raped me. I went to the police and filed a report against him. Detective Alonzo, the case officer, took my report and talked to me a few times. He sent my case to the District Attorney’s office and told me that it would be taken care of. I waited for almost a month and I had not heard anything from him, so I went…

That is where the next challenge of moving started. My old school was in a really large building. My grandma used to wake my sister and I up in the morning, get us dressed, feed us breakfast and walk us four blocks to our school. Sometimes, when it was really cold, we would ride on the city bus. Our playground had a few monkey bars and some swings on a cement lot with a fence. My old school also segregated the playground, girls played on one side and the boys played on another. When my grandma reached the gate for the girl’s side of the playground, she would always give us a big hug and a kiss. Even though it was embarrassing for a young girl to be kissed in public by her grandma, I always felt safe knowing she made sure I got to school and home with her by my…

Most people have moved before sometime in their life. For me, it was only two times. The first move was an international move from Vietnam to the United States of America, when I was barely 8 months old. At the time, it was just my mom, dad, and me, moving across the world to start a new life. Something I have learned from moving is that it is hard to change your life, home, and environment but if you give it some time, nothing is impossible.…

However, my family moved to Tucson, AZ and that is when I went to school for the first time. The transition from being home schooled to a place where I did not know anyone was never racking. I was not around people I knew . Now living in a different state, my mother and grandmother found relief from being able to send us to a better school. While my mom worked at a hospital, my grandmother was our caretaker. My grandmother relied on my aunt whom also lived in the area to drive us to school every morning and pick us up. But occasionally that would be an issue, because my aunt had a job, went to college and had her own children to take care of. One year later, my grandmother became sick and we moved back to Philadelphia because there were better…

For the first two months of my freshman year there wasn't a single piece of furniture on the floor so I couldn't print out papers for school because the printer wasn't set up, I couldn't sleep on my bed but on the mattress itself. The whole process was very irritating and stressful all I could do was hope I didn't fail my first semester and unfortunately I didn't have many friends to help me. When we finally got settled after a year living in Arlington, TX my parents decided to yet again move to a new house because they didn't feel comfortable and neither did my sister and I. During my sophomore year in high school we moved to Dallas, TX a little bit closer to our school. It was annoying to move into another house again We had to pack everything once again and undergo the process of moving from one house to the…

At the time I was pretty young, just finished the third grade at St. Henry School and I was feeling comfortable. But sometimes I will soon find out, is not always a good thing. At this time I was living in very green and warm Nashville, Tennessee. It was the beginning of August and it was almost time to head back to school. But at that point school sat in the very back of my mind as I was totally focused on trying to have the best time before summer ended. School hadn’t really been said between my mom which was kinda weird because normally we were on the…

I was seven years old at the time my parents told me we were leaving Maui and moving to the mainland. At first, I resented the idea of leaving the island. Sure, traveling to the mainland was fun, I had done it plenty of times before. But that was to visit my grandparents in Michigan, but we always came back to the island. But to move there, to move to a place that I had only been once, it horrified me. There was so much to do on the island. There was the shopping, the volcano, whale watching, swimming with sharks. That's just to name a few. Hawaii was a paradise.…
