My Career is Police Dog Handler. A Police Dog Handler, or K-9 Unit, is a unit in the police force that does specialized police work. They track down suspects, search for missing people, illegal drugs, explosives, and stop a crime in progress. I plan to be in the force after I graduate collage, but before I become a K-9 officer I must be a patrol officer for 3 to 4 years and volunteer on my days off, and have a good home with a fence around my yard and a good dog owner. After I leave the Academy I will be a patrol officer in Mccomb, MS before going to Magnolia, MS to be in the K-9 Division. The main reason I chose this career is that the crime rate and drug use in Mississippi is increasing, not just that but more guns are on the street and more…

Roles and functions begin within an organizational chart that assigns tasks and authority for achieving goals. There are two basic classifications of police functions which are either operational or administrative (Grant and Terry, 2012). One role in a police department is in administrative services. The units that provide these services are sometimes referred to as support units. Their functions are usually in hiring and training of police officers, record keeping, planning and research as well as internal affairs. These units are co-staffed by sworn officers and civilian employees. Operational units or line personnel are in direct assistance to the community. They patrol on foot for community building and in vehicles to patrol traffic. These are the men and women in uniform that the public identifies as law enforcement officers who are sworn into office. In addition to administrative and operational units, there are special functions or units within a police force. Several examples are S.W.A.T., K9 and covert operations units. Highly skilled and competent police officers are given advanced training to become…

I took several classes for it, but fell short of money to finish what I needed to graduate. I have always been interested in T.V. shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order: SVU, 48 Hours, and Dateline. Those shows give me the idea of what I want to do and who I want to be like. I don't know the destined occupation in that career field that I want to do. I would be okay with any job in that career field though. I have much respect for police officers and fire fighters. To be successful, I would need to be observant of those around me who had found success. I would need to mirror their ways and incorporate their habits into my own.
