The lights beamed down with intensity at the green field. All was silent, for my team had just got done with practice. I was sitting down in the stands imagining the next day, everyone cheering, adrenaline pumping, and ready to take on the opposing team. I had this vision of being in the last minutes of the game with a tied score, tired but motivated. The ball passed to me as I ran through the field, shifting and pushing through the opposing team. I was now within range and with only the goalie to confuse; I strike the ball without slowing down. It’s going, it’s going.
Before I can think anymore my friend Karla comes and blurs my vision out of context. “Are you ready for tomorrow,” Karla asks. I respond, “We should all be ready, it’s the championship game.” For months we have been practicing, all of our hard work has led up to this moment. I remember game after game we had been wining, this year we made it to the championship. We had a new coach this season and he really knew how to motive us and push us to the limit. The next day seemed to have gone twice as fast. Before I knew it the sun began to set and the game was ready to start. I was really excited; it was just like I had pictured it. The stadium had filled up with soccer fans everywhere. At the same time nervousness began to set in. The long hours awaited my team and I to give everything we had out there in the field. Our team was good but the opposing team was just as good so it was a challenge that grew in tension as the game progressed. The greatest memory came when I scored the first goal of the game. We were well into our second half of the game and it was still 0-0 on the scoreboard. The other team had good defense and ours was just as good so it was getting frustrating to not score anything for our team and I assume the opposing team just as well. My goal began when an opposing team player out of confusion passed the ball to me while I was still within their half of the

We were the champions. Skating as fast as possible, I rushed from the blue line to the net where our goalie was. Our team dog piled on top of one another and screamed with joy. Cheering and crying rang throughout the entire arena. I was elated, tears streamed down my face as I hugged my teammates. After a few seconds, our team recognized that we needed to shake hands with the other team. I understood the defeat and sadness in the opposing teams’ eyes because earlier in the year, I lost to an underdog team in the soccer section final. After the hand shaking, I was a given a medal from my coach.…

The gut-wrenching screech of the whistle shook my ear drums, numbed my chest, and crippled my legs. Prior to this, Pine Richland had kicked a field goal that gave them a three point lead with only seconds left. We had one play to win: a kickoff return to hopefully save not only our season, but to justify the twelve years I had devoted to this game. As the ball was hopping down the field, I stood there trying to stop my hands from frantically shaking. After what felt like an hour, I could finally feel the pigskin leather on my fingertips. I looked up to see the other team stampeding down the field straight for my head. I had to get rid of the ball. To my right, my sweat-soaked teammates had steam rising from the top of their heads and surrounding their bodies. As I threw the ball, the blurred roar of the crowd chilled my bones. I began to run and target an enemy to hit. Inches from me, a white jersey trailed only feet behind my ball-toting teammate; I was a heat-seeking missile and my target was getting warmer. Our bones crunched as our bodies collided. His mouthpiece, accompanied by saliva and mucus, flew from his mouth as his head jerked back from the blow. It was as that white jersey whimpered in pain…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

The team we were up against was the fierce, very talented number 2 in the state, the Rattlers. Recruiting players from all over the country to play on one team, they were a powerhouse no doubt. Josh back in the lineup after sitting out that last game and the hour break we had, he was all fueled up and ready to go. First inning comes up and they bat first putting up a enormous number of runs counting up to 10 in the first. We came back with a 2 run inning. shut them down in the second, and came back another 3 run inning cutting their lead in half. Slowly gaining momentum we knew what we came here to dude and that was to win this championship. Third inning rolls around and we shut them down for the second consecutive inning. We come to bat, three walks in a row and im due up with the bases loaded. Pitcher throwing close to 92 mph, look almost impossible to hit. first pitches goes by and my eyes widened that was the fastest thing i've ever seen right down the pipe for strike one. Next pitch same result. Third pitch i knew it was coming, i reached back threw my bat at the ball and hit a GRAND SLAM! Putting out team down just 1 run with 3 innings to…

We drive down a narrow gravel road to a big grassy field with a small shack near the parking lot. I take a nice deep breath through my nose and smell the country fresh crisp air. My McKenzie and I head to the shack and order our guns and helmets. We put on our helmet and head to the field to play the next game of paintball. Inside it felt like there were butterflies trying to bust out of my stomach.…

I am on the rough turf with the ball in my hands and blue cleats in my peripheral vision. In that moment, all I could hear were the voices in my head yelling "no". My position as goalie contradicts many of my human instincts. The voices tell me not to sacrifice my body to save a shot, but I have been trained to do so. Anxiousness fills my body as I hit the ground, but relief overcomes my mind when I feel the ball inside my palms. The details of this image are a blur. I can only remember where this took place and when. The people in the image are only a vague memory, but the emotions are, oh, so real. Some moments will be forgotten, but the feelings in that moment will always be remembered.…

It was two days until the first game of my sophomore high school football season. My team was pumped! we were going to play Glenville a team that embarrassed us the previous, a battle we relentlessly prepared for since the last game of our freshman year. The sun was beaming off my pads, radiating the heat to make practice seem even worse then it already was. I was exhausted and looking forward to the end of my last sweat poring practice for the week. Our team was repetitively executing plays to make sure they were like second nature to us on Friday. Then, creating an unknown peace, Wheeler yells, "Last Play!" The…

I started to get that swelling feeling in my throat and my eyes started to water. The next batter steps into the box and the crowd is going absolutely nuts. Everyone knew we had this in the bag, we just to finish it. The next pitch was slow motion. My heart sank as I saw the ball hit the sweet spot of the bat. All the cheering, all the yelling faded into the background and in that moment all I could hear is my own heartbeat. Again, here came Carley saving the day once again. She snatched up the ball and lightly tossed it to first base. Before the ball even got into the glove I was sprinting towards the mound. I felt like my feet weren't touching the ground I was running so fast. It was a moment of pure bliss. We worked so hard for this moment and everything paid off. As we were hugging in the circle I realized this is it. This was the last time I would play with the 5 senior girls. The tears started to stream down my face as I looked at one of the seniors and she said in a way so meaningful “ You stepped up to the plate and I couldn't be more proud of you Mo”. Again, I start to reflect. Softball has brought me so much happiness and I will be forever grateful for the friends that I've made along the way. I wouldn't trade the 6:30 am practices, the team dinners or the practices in the blazing heat. That last inning I carry with me throughout my life. So when I look at the trophy that's displayed in Tahoma high school, that last inning runs through my head like a movie and it all comes…

It was like a slow motion movie. I could only see a speck of the ball in the air. The sun pierced out the clouds and shined brightly into my eyes. I was staring straight at the ball then at the goal, then back at the ball again. The ball decked my forehead and flew back into the air. I was facing the goal, and I hadn't even noticed it. The goalie with a bright neon green jersey dived into the air to block my header. She dived late and completely missed the ball. The ball whipped the net, and I was shocked, but also excited at the same time.…
