Faux: A Short Story
Faux Exactly two weeks before school began, I sat in my bed watching season 4 of “The Fosters,” when my mother walked in handing me my folded laundry. “I haven’t seen X&Y around here, are you still speaking to them?” She asked. “Yea we’re still speaking, I just didn’t have time to see them this summer,” was the response I gave.
That was a straight up lie. I did have time to see them, I could of made time to see them, but I chose not too. Too much drama to explain within 30 seconds to my mother so I left it at that. X&Y had been my best friends since the first grade; I’m a senior now. After 11 years of friendship, we now walk the halls pretending not to know each other when one sees the other. 11 years wasted on people who covered up or faked who they were all along. New to the district and to my elementary school, I shuffled my way to class with my eyes fixated on the floor below me. My father held my hand and as we reached my first grade classroom, he gave it a little squeeze. I had told my dad

Each year our little clique would grow, welcoming new people, or shrink, having people switch schools or find new groups, but the original three always stuck together. As sixth grade came to an end and seventh grade began, X&Y started becoming really distant. One of our members had became friends with a group we all originally thought were a little conceited and impolite. All three of us had always agreed that we would never treat people they way they did. We would always include people in on what we were talking about, we would welcome them to come sit with us, we would try to start a conversation with them if they were too shy to. After weeks of silence X came back telling us that the others were so crude and would always keep secrets, yet would want to know everything about her. X realized that they were just using her and never intended to be her

Crisp, golden light creeped out from behind my curtains into my bedroom on a cool Fall morning, rising me up from my sleep. Once I had gotten myself dressed, I shuffled downstairs to my kitchen and poured myself some life cereal and milk. As soon as I had finished the rest of my daily routine that got me ready for school, my mom drove me and my sister off to Finley Farms, which was the school we attended. The school day went by as usual and slinked away, but after a few subjects my class, along with the other 5th graders, were led by our teachers downstairs to a room where we were greeted by a woman who told us she was Mrs.Sopeland. The fifth graders all sat down in a semi-circle formation and waited for the rest of the 5th grade classes.…

Tears soon flooded my eyes until I could no longer hold them back. I cried. In fact, I did not stop crying, I couldn't. Eventually, my sister would emerge through the doorway; she had been sent over from her classroom across the hall to comfort me. This was the morning routine of my short lived preschool career; my parents and teachers decided I wasn't ready yet for school, so they pulled me out for the rest of the year. From a young age I wasn't the biggest fan of school, even preschool wasn't appealing to me and that's saying something. When looking at how my preschool career ended quickly never would…

The steam from his drink coated his glasses, and behind the mug I could see a toothless smile and a dark shiny grey beard. He gestured for my dad and I to come in. I stepped my way up into the overcrowded room full of mustard yellow couches. Not only did the place looked run down, and about to fall apart but, the place smelled like the worst mixture of rotten foods you could imagine. My dad and I’s facial expressions to each other said it all about this place. Once we had found our way, we filled out some application forms. During the process, I stood beside my dad, searching to find another girl taking the class. I looked forever only to find that there were no other girls…

There were two groups of friends who both shared contrasting thoughts. One person aggravated me by getting me into trouble during a challenging time of my life. Without thinking, I went to my friends almost in tears because I was so angry. I described what happened to them, but we ended up in trouble for ‘gossiping’. In spite of that, I knew that if I hadn’t said anything I probably would have run away or something. The Bible says to love everyone, but my emotions were strong... Everyone got so annoyed with each other. The opposing side seemed to be saying hurtful and offensive things towards us. Admittingly, we were talking behind their backs about them, but they also were doing that to us (I know that still doesn’t make it right, but read on and I shall explain why that upsets me). They then lied, which caused more chaos and disagreement. Despite some members trying to take counsel from teachers, it only seemed to make matters worse. My friend group did not seem to have a voice. Both sides were confused and were continually feeding the division despite trying to resolve the situation. Even if we tried, the teacher most likely wouldn’t have believed us. Other than that, I haven’t really collided or anything…

It had been a crazy morning as I ran all over my house trying to find my jacket and boots. My mom had been admitted into the hospital that morning for a massive headache and all I could think about was whether or not she would be okay. I took her to the emergency room that day before so going to class was the last thing on my mind. My father and sister had agreed to stay with her till I ended class so I was more at ease knowing she wouldn’t be alone. After running all over my house looking for my things I quickly gathered myself to make my train. I finally got to Penn Station with four minutes to spare. With one little lie, I had seriously wounded our friendship, and she was upset. Adrienne was not distraught and distressed about why I did not want to go; it was because I had lied to her in the first place. Consequently, she showed scorn towards me, and she rejected anything I had to say for nearly a week. No matter how much I apologized and tried to retract what I had done and said; it did not make things much better. I tried to make amends with her, but she would not accept my apology.…

I observed Mr. Dave’s pre-k class at Montclair pre-school. I arrived at the classroom at 8:00 am to accessed the classroom as well to speak to Mr. Dave. We reviewed the day’s plan as I helped him clean up. While cleaning around the room I noticed how colorful the room was. There were: banners of letters and numbers hanging on the wall, as well as a large alphabet carpet on the floor for the kids to sit on, toys to play with and books to read. As the children arrived, they removed their belongings and placed them in the cubbies. Afterwards, they grabbed their name tags and set their lunchboxes on the lunchbox table. I played with the kids until class started at 9:00…

“Hello,” said a kind face to me as I entered my first eighth-grade class at a new school. “Hello,” I said back, not knowing how to take the gesture. I walked into a classroom full of new faces. Everyone was gawking at the new kid. I thought to myself, “is it what I’m wearing? Do I look weird? Should I say something?” I did nothing but go to my assigned seat, and sat quietly just like I did on the bus months prior. As I sat in silence, I listened intently as the teacher floated across the room while calling roll. When I heard my name called, I tried to muster up the courage to address myself in a casual way, but I’m sure that it came out as a nervous “here.” As she finished roll call, each student was handed a mountain of forms and papers. Then the class slowly transformed into a parade of shouts and laughter. Everyone was welcoming each other back, except for me. I sat there in silence examining everyone.…

She lied to B, causing her to lose an important friend along the way. Because of her actions, I remained hostile towards C. C spouted rude sayings at me, not once but twice, and I realized that I needed to break away. I ignored other friends because I became aware that being alone was better than being with them. During my first time alone, I thought that I was free, and it was not too lonely without them. I separated from them last year with a two to three weeks of school left. I remained this way till now, only hanging out with other friends who I feel better about myself when I am with them. B and I became closer during sophomore year and we both left the group, not the same time. This year, she ate with them once, but she asked me if she could go to where I was. She confessed that they were talking behind my back this whole time, and it started with A. My heart broke, hurting because someone I thought was my friend two years ago betrayed me. A teacher asked “When is it too late to apologize?” I believe that it is never too late to apologize, but it can be too late to be forgiven. Such betrayal strengthen me and led me to be myself in front of friends who actually…
