During the eighteenth century Spanish explorers went on a journey across the Atlantic ocean

to spread the word of Christianity to the Native Americans in the southwest of America. Several people

played key roles in the spreading of the religion in America. Father Junipero Serra took the lead during

this time. Crossing over the Atlantic and into California he helped create one of the first missions in

California. However later thoughout his conquest he would help create many more missions. Father

Junipero Serra was without a doubt one of the most, if not the most important figure during this time.
