Farquhar's An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
What can be found in this essay are the answers to the questions assigned to respond to at home after reading the story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”. There are a variety of elements that are going to be discussed such as how a simple plan affected Farquhar as much as it did. The author really did play with some points of view throughout the story and that may be the reason of my confusion while reading it even though the author did include many details about Farquhar’s experience. I hope that this essay can clarify any doubts regarding the story.
The situation in this story is that Farquhar was a Southern planter with obvious interest to protect in the South. One day, a Confederate soldier stopped by his plantation and he didn’t like it. Because of this, he wanted to do something to fight back against them. Farquhar came up with the idea of sabotaging the bridge that crossed Owl Creek. According to the laws of war in the story, it’s illegal to try or commit sabotage unless you’re in the uniform of your country's armed forces. Otherwise, you would be considered a spy and you’re liable to be executed. Just the plan that Farquhar had was what made him deserving of his execution. …show more content…
After he is freed by the broken nose, he begins his escape by way of the creek before he finally reaches the safety of land. He spends many hours making his return and he eventually reaches his home the following morning.
