It is a rich and colorful industry with enormous following all over the world for its interesting plots and themes as well as the culture it offers. In this paper, gathered information enlightens the fact that the topic anime is a fun medium that fans are able to relate with. It is an entertainment. Moreover, some say that it is “a way to experience another reality” while others believe that it aids the imagination and serves as a companion. Most anime fans in Metro Manila are students ranging in a moderate degree of fandom. They are fascinated in Japan generally, their food and music, being the industry’s origin. Expressions of this love for the form evolve from simple fan-made expressions to a way of life (imitation of anime characters, principles). Interest in other anime sectors especially the manga or comics category is most evident as well.
These anime enthusiasts have already turned to different applications. In this light, anime content has never been more

Satoshi Kon is an important figure in Japanese cinema. In many of his works, he analyzes the concept of society’s desire for escapism due to stress and anxiety which addresses the question of this essay—what is Kon’s perspective upon the nature of escapism and its impact upon society? This essay will examine a television series he directed called Paranoia Agent in order to explore Kon’s theme of escapism and its impact on society. Mainly episodes 1-5 and 9-13 will be covered in the essay. Sources ranging from interviews with Kon, reviews and news articles were researched to better understand Kon’s style of animation, thus understand Kon’s messages in Paranoia Agent. Through consulting these sources, we fully appreciate Kon’s techniques of framed narrative structuring, detailed and realistic art styles, diverse animation styles, sound effects and so forth which emphasize Kon’s critical portrayal of society’s escapism. Through examining characters and their interactions with one another, we understand the fearsome influence of escapism on society. Characters succumb to the temporary relief of escapism, represented by the character Shonen Bat. As we examine character motivations and actions, the absurdity of escapism is established. Kon depicts society as vulnerable, desperate to avoid reality, thus suffers the consequences which include lost of identity, hallucinations or even death. Through escapism, the fragility of human nature is revealed. However, through development of certain characters, society redeems itself in the show. In the end, we realize that we can relate to these characters and the desire for escapism is inevitable as Kon admits. We conclude that escapism is necessary in order to preserve our sanity in this stress-driven society; however…

A major change that happened during the last five years to me is the divergence of gaming, television, literature, and anime subcultures. Looking back into the history of what qualified as ‘anime’ from 2005 to 2014, the time when I have been most into the genre of television, will show that in 2005, there were a core amount of ‘must-watch’ shows such as Black Butler, Hetalia, etc. that I watched and everyone knew about, however with the rapid increase in variety of supply, it has become more common for there to be ‘who?’ comments from fellow fans when referring to ‘Prussia’, ‘Alois Trancy’ or many other characters I once considered ‘core’ to the fan base. The same applied to video games. Everyone had played Call of Duty or had a League of Legends account if they were to call themselves a ‘gamer’ when I was in middle school. Now those two fan bases are very separate from each other. Other genres, such as Real-Time Strategy and the lesser known Casual market, have created separate niches from each other, myself firmly a devotee to the Real-Time Strategy sub-genre and the 4X game genre. Media in general, thanks to the advent of mass production of cultural media with Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, etc. allows for a mass influx of all kinds of media before unknown and now allows me to share my niche enjoyments with others much easier. Now, a search of any pairing from a book, movie, or television show will yield me endless results. Media is creating…

Manga is the Japanese correspondent to comic books in the West and has been able to gain a large international following in the past 20 years. However, it is still a niche culture in America. Many people do not understand manga and create false assumptions regarding the topic. People do not understand the cultural differences between America and Japan, and thus, assume that manga is peculiar. This ignorance has led the public to believe in ideas about manga that are incorrect, such as that it is only for children. Another assumption that society has about manga is that it, along with graphic novels, are not real literature. If people can understand that manga is not so different from traditional literature, then it may be accepted as a respected source that can help people enjoy reading. People are ignorant to the cultural separations, and it is important to understand the differences because only then, will society realize that manga is not so different to the literature of America.…

We see an Iranian girl taking interest in western culture, doing different sorts of activities corresponding: partying, listening to pop and rock music, wearing nike shoes and denim jacket, trying a cigarette, skipping school to go for burgers, etc. The whole graphic novel itself, as a format, is an example of western influence. A graphic novel earlier used as a sourse of entertainment, Marjane Satrapi brings it to a new level. She uses it with an aim to introduce her culture through a familiar to the foreign readers format. Moreover, the simplicity and the narrowness of details of her drawings encourages the readers to identify with Marji, to erase all differences in a gesture of “cultural understanding.”…

Since my days as a youngster, I found myself fascinated in Saturday morning action cartoons, fantasy novels, comic books, video games and Japanese manga and anime. I’d stay up all night reading Superman and would wake up early to watch Power Rangers on Saturday mornings. And man did I watch it all, read it all; everyday all day, inspiring me even today.
