fairness for althletes
The controversy over whether professional athletes deserve to enjoy higher salary than other occupations or not has consumed uncountable pages of mass media. On the one hand, a handful of people claims that these athletes deserve to be paid higher by dint of their endless efforts in the whole life. On the other hand, others emphasize that other jobs should be paid more for its important positions in society. As far as this debate is concerned, I share the same views with the second stance.
One of the most crucial arguments against my point of view declares that sports professionals sacrificed their childhood for training and practicing laboriously, in other words, they devoted the most precious moments in life to chase for the glory of their favorite sport. To some extent, this argument is reasonable. However, it is irrefutable that not only do athletes contribute the whole life for jobs, but also do other workers in other professions. A medicine student must experience 10 plus years to become a general practician, additional 5 years of studying major, for example, cardiovascular major, and many years of experience as a resident doctor in order to achieve his dream of becoming a heart surgeon. But in fact, a PhD doctor will need 5 years to earn the amount of money that a football professional can make in only one month. Is it fair ?
Another outstanding contention focuses on the importance of entertainment in general and sports in specific. Sport, like other types of entertainment plays an important role to help people deal with stress in the paced world nowadays and ensures a sufficiently mental life for them. By virtue of this reason, it is possible that sportsmen should be paid with high salary. They have a point in thinking like that. Nevertheless, in a world full of social inequalities like growing poor-rich gap, poor infrastructure in developed nations, a society with still many people not being provided health care and basic education, it is thoughtful
