SYNERGIES ASPIRED TO ACHIEVE * Renault, a French company, wanted to enter in Indian market with an entry level Sedan. * M+M is known for it’s rugged and strong vehicles like trucks and recent years SUV like Scorpio and others like Bolero and Xylo but lacked a passenger car in it’s product portfolio. * So, both went for a JV. * Renault hoped to achieve low procurement and manufacturing cost, plus Indian market insights and distribution channels through M+M * M+M hoped to get knowledge of advanced technology, manufacturing, designing and prototyping process.

REASONS FOR FAILURE * High pricing * Not-so-good looks * Poor Marketing Promotions * Positioning of the car
PRICI NG * A Logan was priced higher as compared to other competitors like Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Ford Fiesta etc. * The reason was it’s length and high imported content. * The Logan is 4.2 meters. So, it had to shell out extra excise duty of 22 percent

The Giant Motor Company (GMC) produces three lines of cars for the domestic (U.S.) market: Lyras, Libras, and Hydras. The Lyra is a relatively inexpensive subcompact car that appeals mainly to first-time car owners and to households using it as a second car for commuting. The Hydra is the luxury car of the GMC line. It is significantly more expensive than the Lyra and Libra, and it has the highest profit margin of the three cars.…

Land Rover has identified two main segments in the 4x4 leisure sector: young, affluent adults with no kids and family/conservative buyers. As it is substantially more expensive (far more so than most other SUVs) and in the consideration set for buyers also considering Mercedes and Jaguar (Exhibit 16), the Range Rover may be best suited for the young affluent target. The company should strengthen the Range Rover’s position as the ultimate luxury adventure SUV before other luxury brands launch new vehicles in 1996. The Discovery with its high safety ratings (Exhibit 18), seating for up to seven passengers and more affordable price tag is then set to take on the family/conservative sub-segment. Females are relatively more concerned about safety (Exhibit 8). They comprise 34 percent of total SUV buyers while only 24 percent of Discovery buyers (Exhibit 19) so their may be room for growth with this consumer if she is convinced that her family will be safer in a Land Rover Discovery. Discovery is also already selling better than the total SUV market with families: 38 percent compared to 24 percent (Exhibit 19).…

company is on the road to becoming a player in the global automobile industry. M&M isn’t the only company from an emerging market that is making the world sit up and take notice. Over the past two-plus decades, waves of liberalization have all but washed away protectionist barriers in developing countries. As those nations integrated themselves into the world economy, multinational corporations from North America, Western Europe, Japan, and South Korea stormed in. Many local companies lost market share or sold off businesses as a result, but some fought back. They held their own against the onslaught, restructured their businesses, exploited new opportunities, and built worldclass companies that today are giving their global rivals a run for their money. Some emerging giants compete…
