Fahrenheit 451 Allusion Analysis
Ray Bradbury decided that in hopes of emulating his heroes, and to “live forever” though his fiction. He uses his writing to create stories that make you think about what might just happen if we aren’t careful. Ray Bradbury uses so many literacy devices that it was hard to pick just three, but I chose allusion, irony and analogies. Bradbury uses allusion to try to explain thing in great detail without actually telling you what he’s explaining. Allusion is an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference. In the story Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury uses allusion when he describes Mildred’s friends. “They were like a monstrous crystal chandelier ticking in a thousand chimes; he saw their Cheshire cat smiles burning through the walls of the house… (93). Another example of allusion is in the story Fahrenheit 451 when Bradbury explains the logic of the fireman; why they burn and their history. “First fireman: Benjamin Franklin. (34). Bradbury uses allusion to make you think about what you’re reading.

Irony is a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy. In the story, The Pedestrian Bradbury uses irony to write the whole story. Mr. Mead wasn’t doing anything wrong, he was just walking and yet he was arrested. Another example of irony is in the story Fahrenheit 451 when he explains the fireman’s theory. “Plant the books, turn in the alarm, and see the fireman’s houses burn, is that what you mean?” (85). The wrong is so obvious in both of these examples but things that are wrong still happen and irony is used to make us see these wrongs
