In her article “Down on the Factory Farm: It’s a Life Sentence for Animals,” Debra Probert argues that readers should consider becoming vegetarians in response to the abuse of animals on factory farms. In her article, published in Alive: Canadian Journal of Health and Nutrition, Probert describes conditions that a variety of animals endure on factory farms. Her goal is to convince readers of the abuse that animals endure on factory farms and to argue for a decrease or cessation of meat eating by the public. In this article Probert presents information to prove that factory farms are indeed as atrocious as she claims. Although Probert has a very good argument and emotional appeal when visualizing the conditions these animals are subjected to, she does not give any references to ensure that what the readers are reading is indeed accurate, and she lacks the experience and credentials to support the claims. Probert give details to show readers the truth about factory farming.…

Factory farming has expanded drastically over the years. Taking over jobs provided by small farms, torturing animals, and endangering human health, it is no wonder why these industrialized plantations are getting a bad reputation. So, why has society allowed factory farms become our primary source of food and produce? It is because these farms have not been exposed of their inhumane ways. Society has been taught to believe that factory farms are the most productive way to feed an ever growing population.…

Factory farming is one of the most controversial topics talked about around the world. Most people just believe their perfectly packaged meat from the supermarket comes from a normal farm. Little do they know, it’s much more than that. Consumers have no idea what animals go through just for them to have a great chicken or steak dinner. Jessica Leader of the Huffington Post states, 99% of the meat in the United States comes from factory farms. (Leader, paragraph1). Factory farming according to Webster’s Dictionary is a farm on which large numbers of livestock are raised indoors in conditions intended to maximize production at minimal cost. PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

playing in mud, chickens running around in the yard, cows eating grass in the field, and a loving family, who take good care of all their animals. Sadly the reality is much different than this. Imagine a building with overcrowded conditions so intense that death is all around you. The smell of urine and feces fill the air, it's as unbearable as raw sewage. (Simile) and the building is so jam-packed that you can’t even learn to walk properly. This is just the beginning of your horrifying life as a chicken living in a factory farm. In these factory farms animals live like prisoners in camps (allusion), having everything that is important to them taken away including family, sunlight and their freedom. It is necessary at this time that we look at what is going in these farms and find out the other destructive impacts factory farming has.…
