Factors that determines a businesses success
A businesses success is determined by many factors, such as profits gained, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and owner satisfaction. These successes are usually the output result of effective co-operation in the workplace. However, there is a certain barrier that hinders the process of good co-operation, they are known as “resistance to change.” There are two types of resistance in organizations, these are known as functional resistance and dysfunctional resistance. Functional resistance entails of; critically assessing whether change will lead to improvements, exploring the personal consequences of change and feeling of regret, anxiety or fear to a previous history of non-disclosure and poor working relations. Dysfunctional resistance in organizations revolve around; avoiding dealing with urgent and pressing issues, declining to work on what really needs to be done, blaming and criticizing without proposing alternatives, sabotaging change and non-collaboration with others.
When determining the cause of resistance to change, one must first be able to recognize the signs that lead to said resistances. These may include active signs, such as being critical, finding fault, Ridiculing, appealing to fear, using facts selectively, blaming or accusing, Sabotaging, intimidating or threatening, manipulating, distorting facts, blocking, undermining, starting rumors and arguing. One should also take heed of the passive signs which are; agreeing verbally but not following through (“malicious compliance”) failing to implement change, procrastinating or dragging one’s feet, feigning ignorance, withholding information, suggestions, help or support, standing by and allowing change to fail. By studying and analyzing these signs, one may be able to nip the problem of resistance in the bud.
