Eye Color and Chocolaty Brown Ones
It’s Tuesday morning, 6 a.m. to be exact. I sleep peacefully in my bed, hidden under the floral bedspread. Eight pillows are surrounding my small, eight-year-old frame, giving me a safe and comforted feeling. My dreams are peaceful and pure; innocent like a child’s dreams should be. As the images dance under my eyelids I am gently shook awake by his gentle touch. “Ambyrrr,” his voice is like a melody to my ears and it automatically brings a sense of love and safety to me. I slowly open my hazel green eyes and they meet his chocolaty brown ones. I let out a soft grunt and roll over, not wanting to leave the comfort of my nice warm bed. A soft chuckle echoes through the room and any one could sense the love and admiration he held behind it. He once again reaches out with his hand and gently shakes my shoulder. With a hand that has seen so much hard work that the skin was permanently tough you would think it would not be capable of being gentle, but that’s all it was anymore. A hand that had once beaten down a few men was now used for nothing but love. “Ambyr, honey. Get up. We’re going to Hansen’s, remember?” I roll over onto my back and let out a big yawn. I reach my arms over my head and stretch my body out like a cat does right after its nap. I sit up and, with my tiny hands, rub the sleep away from my eyes. I look up at him and smile, and as He smiles back at me respect, love, and admiration runs through my entire body. “There we go. Get dressed and brush your hair out,” he stands up and walks towards the door then turns around and playing points his finger at me, “And don’t you dare go back to sleep now.” A smile tugs at his mouth as he disappears out my door and down the hall. I hurriedly leap out of my bed and throw on the quickest outfit I can find. Then I walk out my room head towards the bathroom. I would run, but running in the house is frowned upon unless there is good reason behind it. While in the bathroom, I run a brush through my tangled

In this town the people looked up to Albert Rasmussen because he was smart and decided to stay in Bounty after graduation. This literally means that they didn’t have anything much technology and before they actually decided to sleep. In this short story “The Sleep” sleep is a symbol to many things such as hibernation, separation, death.…

St. Peter had always laughed at people who talked about ‘day-dreams,' just as he laughed at people who naively confessed that they had ‘an imagination.' All his life his mind had behaved in a positive fashion. When he was not at work, or being actively amused, he went to sleep. He had no twilight stage. But now he enjoyed this half-awake loafing with his brain as if it were a new sense, arriving late, like wisdom teeth. He found…

While the child lacks intimate interactions with his father in “Those Winter Sundays,” the speaker in Kinnell’s “After Making Love We Hear Footsteps,” conveys how comfortable his son, Fergus, is when interacting with him. The speaker begins by telling us about his son’s habit of waking up, not when loud sounds are produced, but when he hears the noises his parents make while making love. He describes that his son “will wrench himself awake / / and make for it on the run,” (8-9) in his haste to get to their bedroom. In the wee hours of the morning my life is the embodiment of a living, breathing dichotomy. Awakening with a wry little smile on my face, I knew I had dreamed of the river, big brown trout, and sweet 3wt bamboo rods. My body screams – “Where’s the coffee”, while my brain questions the sanity of getting up this early on a Saturday. Oblivious to the cacophony, the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Betraying logic, they forewarn that this pre-dawn moment was the premonition of a great day ahead.…

In the 1970’s, the popular song Dream Weaver by Gary Wright was released. The song depicts the singer requesting a “Dream Weaver” to grant him a dream that will fulfill his fantasies, help him forget his worries, and get him through the night. However, unlike the popular song, there is no supernatural force, or “weaver,” that grants dreams. Dreams are not arbitrary, enigmatic forces that are only obtained by being alongside the high status of gods or granted from some power. In actuality, dreams are psychological structures that are natural responses to external stimuli, conflicts, and moods. Their content can be explained and interpreted through an understanding that sensory stimulus, experience, wish fulfillment, and one’s emotional…

Dreams play an important role in our lives. Dreams are an opportunity for us to experience a life with no limitations. However, not all dreams are meaningless fiction. Sometimes, a dream can be identical to everyday life. In some cases it is extremely difficult to tell the difference between a dream and reality. Throughout history, studies show that dreams provide an insight into one’s own self. Dreams can show us who we really are and what we want out of life by tapping into our subconscious mind. They have the ability to be inspirational, life changing, and revealing. Certain aspects of the story “Young Goodman Brown” lead us to believe that he is merely dreaming.…

I wake in the morning, I feel like nothing. This is where my playtime begins. I sleep on a big, white, fluffily cloud. The thought of abandoning my warm cozy nest for the big cold world makes me want to curl up into fetal position and sleep my life away. I tell myself I can get up in just a minute while I listen to the birds faintly chirp outside my window. I like the way the morning sounds. I pretend that it is summer and get high off my nostalgia. I let my imagination wander in the cob webbed memories of warm weather. My mind drifts off but I know how to catch it in the morning because it hasn't been awake long enough to run far.…
