Upon arrival at the ER, I remember the nurses trying to comfort my family and me by reassuring us that I would be alright. The nurses supplied me with an IV drip that took my pain away and stayed with me as I got sick waiting for the physician on duty. They paid close attention to how I was feeling, how much pain I was experiencing, and did everything they could to console me until the news came that I had ruptured a cyst and surgery was not needed. Little did I know how this painful experience would have such a profound impact on my life.
Upon entering college, I knew I wanted to work towards a career in medicine. However, I was unsure of which direction to follow and decided that obtaining a biology degree would be the correct path for me. My long term goal is to work with children or work in the surgery department. Since my first interaction with the nurses in the ER, I have challenged myself to be the best student and learn many skills, to help people in need within the community, to effectively communicate, and to work well as a team. Never could I have imagined that a ruptured cyst on a softball field could lead me down a path to a career in nursing, but it did, and I am ready and excited to experience the rewarding and fulfilling life of a
