Extending School Hours
I strongly disagree with the Dickenson County School Board extending the school day by an hour and a half. I do not feel an extension will benefit students or staff. For instance, students and staff will not have time for other activities outside of school. Everyone is required to spend an excessive amount of time at school as it is. Taking on an extra hour and a half of school will be more stressful for both students and staff. For these reasons, the school board needs to carefully consider all the negative effects before making any changes. First, students and staff will not have time for other activities. They will not have time to spend with their friends and family if the school board decides to extend the day. Afterwards, when students get home, they will not have time for chores, …show more content…
Some students can barely handle the time they are required to attend classes, and cannot deal with an extra thirty minutes, much less an hour and thirty minutes! It is not healthy for students to be stressed, and it limits how much they are willing to learn. Likewise, when students have too much work piled on them they will just shut off their brain, causing them to complete less work. With this in mind, most students struggle to keep their grades up already, and if they are too stressed to learn their grades will start to slip. In conclusion, I honestly do not see any reason to extend the school day at all. In the long run, this change will benefit students or staff in any way, all things considered it will actually prevent the students from learning well, and staff from successfully performing their jobs. Students will not have time for any extra activities like family time and sports. There are way too many hours in a school day to begin with. Most importantly, adding time to a school day at all will be too stressful for students and

Certainly, students would not be as miserable if the school hour would start later in the day. If the school hour started later then students would not have to stumble around, half asleep in the morning. Many students are miserable and tired in the morning, many students are falling asleep in classes causing them to fail tests. Because they are tired and failing tests it is creating upset students, so if the school day started later no students would be tired, asleep, or failing tests which would also create happy teachers. For these reasons, I strongly believe the school day should start later to prevent miserable and tired…

Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

Should public schools be scheduled to be opened all year round? Students would hopefully approve. Public schools should have a system where schools shall be open for a short while, and it shall gain extended normal weekends. Year-round schooling has many beneficial advantages to schools who don’t have this. To start off, “students would have a higher chance of remembering what they were taught” (Scherman). In addition, students will have a positive attitude when going to school. Lastly, having frequent breaks will allow the students’ and the teacher’s mindset to recharge or to cool off.…

Kids will go insane if the school board adds one and a half hours to school. Children are already stressed about SOLs and homework. We shouldn't put more pressure on them. The school board should add more days to the school days to the school year than adding more hours. Adding more time will cause more problems and stress. The school board should not add one and a half hours board because students will complain more, teachers will have to stay longer after the school day, and it would limit after-school activities.…

The board of education are thinking about changing five day school weeks to four day school weeks. Which is a brilliant idea, because having four day school weeks will improve students attendance, for instance students who have doctor appointments they can go on Friday the day the students got off of school for the weekend, instead of having to leave in the middle of class. Another reason school should have four day school weeks is that it will save more money because when schools have a whole week, they have to use money to fill up the buses, which will be a bunch of money going down the drain, but with the four day school weeks they wouldn't have that problem. But having this four day week it will also improve students learning, because students…

    Delayed School Start Time

One of the reasons we think the school start time should stay the same is because it will make the time commitment of participating in after school activities more difficult to manage. All of us, like many other students, participate in after school activities. A later school start time will mean that school activities will start later and run even later than they do now. The later in the day it gets, the less energy we have to give 100% effort mentally. We will also be more physically tired which means if…

Beep! We all dread that early morning alarm that goes off to tell us it’s time to get ready for school. We wish we could just go back to sleep and carry on with our day later, but we know that time won’t wait for us. Most schools start earlier in the morning, sometime in between seven or eight o’clock. Some people think that this is too early and that school needs to start later, whereas some feel that it is fine at the time it now starts.…

The first year that we could have it in the school, there would be many mistakes and I believe that it might not help student out. If we could change the schedule it might make it harder on the students and, they do not want to make it more stressful on the students. Since that it would affect the whole primary, middle, and high school it would be a big change for all of us. I don’t necessarily believe that the student would go for this idea of changing the schedule.…

However, if it was moved to 8:30 a.m just an hour later, just think that all that can do it will increase kids sleep time. It will help their grades. It will also get schools more money because students will have better attendance than usual. Obviously, 7:30 a.m should not be the start time of schools you could get all of these things with the simplest of changes. School starts too early because, kids need 8 hours of sleep, kids grades are being affected by waking up early, and on the weekend kids are waking up late and delaying weekend activities.…

Do you enjoy going to school at 8.30 in the morning? Are you fully awake and think you can handle life's many daily challenges to the best of your ability? I think not. In order to achieve this task, the school day would have to start at a later time. Everyone would benefit from these changes, even teachers. They would also get off our backs about being negative in tests, because we do not remember anything. Students would be less irritable in class, and they would also pay more attention to teachers.…

“Should schools have a shorter school day?” Imagine going to school at 8 AM and coming home at 2 PM, that would be the life. People have their opinions about school being too long or too short. In my opinion I enjoy school, but there's only so much before I crack. I feel if we lower the time at school, kids can go home get their homework and studying done and still have time to do other things during the day.…

    Year Round School Essay

More time means a more flexible schedule for homework and assignments. Shorter school days, as short as 180/365, 0.493150685 long days or about half the typical hours a school day lasts. Imagine only having to go to school only 3 hours a day! The school year would be longer but the days would be super short. Plus, after school help could last longer for those who need it, and more time for students and teachers to focus on their personal lives, relieving stress for everyone. Ultimately, with all that extra time, students have more time to focus and study. In a year's total, it would give at least 540 more hours of free time, so there would be literally no excuse for late or missing work unless a student has super unique circumstances. information can be retained faster, save time for the teachers, and improve test grades for example my cousin lives in georgia and her year round schooling is going great she’s in the same grade as me and she is farther ahead of me. Less schools hours per day would mean less information that would have to be memorized per day. Miss days will have less effects on information. More ability to take time to do good work. Less have to review at one time. More time for tests review, and less…

    Changing school times

Changing school times does not only affect the children, but affects other people as well. According to Elizabeth Baroni (2004), Fred Danner and Barbara Phillips (2008), earlier start times may result in fewer hours of sleep, as students may not fully compensate for earlier rising times with earlier bedtimes. If the counties change the school times, it will result in changing the times that after school activities start and end. In the winter, it gets darker earlier which results in children having their after school activities in the dark. Children will not be able to spend much time with family because of the times that they will be occupied with homework and school. Not only will students have less time, but teachers as well will not have much time to grade since of the school time.…

As much as the student body complains about the hours of school, in all actuality, the time period, which is scheduled for school hours is completely relevant and reasonable. Although the controversy would be considered for more time to sleep and more time to work efficiently, changing scheduled school hours would not only cause problems within the school system, it would cause problems outside the school pertaining to parents and transportation of students, students after school hours and sleeping schedules, and students who participate in athletics and academics. Therefore, changing the scheduled school hours for a delayed time stamp is not the accurate and efficient way to address this situation.…
