Why was it difficult to settle in Charles Town? It was hard to settle in Charles Town because of the geography, the competition with the natives for natural resources, and diseases like smallpox. There is also shortages of food, supplies, men, harsher weather, and new threatening animals. The English settlers had to deal with problems, such as finding a place to settle, growing crops, fighting with the natives, and disease. Geography was one reason why settling in Charles Town was difficult. Water can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Some advantages would be that there would be enough to drink, you could go fishing, and the water provides transportation. The disadvantages with having water close to where you lived would be that the crops could get flooded, your house might flood, and the area around the water could flood to.
