Explain Why The Legal Age Should Be Raised To 21
People who are 18 are still developing as humans. Their brains are growing, their getting taller, and becoming a mature adult. However while this is happening the brain is less resistant to drugs and alcohol making addictions easy to acquire. But no drugs are legal and drinking is only for 21 yr old so they should be safe right? Sadly however there is one drug that has taken a staggering amount of lives. This is tobacco and it is deadly to anyone and everyone. But at 18 you can buy them whenever. So this raises the question. Should the legal age to purchase and use tobacco products be raised to 21?
I am for the raising of the legal age to smoke, as is Tobbaco21 as they state,”Increasing the sale age to 21 will help to prevent young people from ever starting to smoke and to reduce the deaths, disease and health care costs caused by tobacco use.”,This is a solid point as It tells us the kind of events like reducing deaths by tobacco tremendously in youths, reduced healthcare costs for those seeking treatment, and the reduced rate of …show more content…
Why should I care about this if 18 means your an adult. Well when you’re 18, like I said earlier, you are still developing as a human being that means that your brain is easier to trick and control. This makes addiction easy and fast in 18 year olds. This issue is amplified because of how tobacco companies know tis as use it as a weapon. Instead of pandering to a more mature audience they try to pull teenager 18 years old and under and make smoking look “cool” and “bada**” while hiding the ill effects of any tobacco product. “But aren’t kids always being told the dangers of tobacco?” ,This is true but even if we tell them it’s bad tobacco companies will tell them it relieves stress, gives a small high, and other sayings that are made to lure in the pandered audience, students.
