Explain Why Tearing Paper Is An Example Of A Physical Change
Question #1:
A. Explain why tearing paper is an example of a physical change and not a chemical change.
Physical change is a change in shape. Chemical change is when a product changes into a completely different thing because of a reorganization of molecules. When you tear paper, the paper does not turn into something else; it is still paper. Does, tearing paper is an example of physical change.
B. Explain why burning a piece of paper is an example of a chemical change and not a physical change.
When you burn paper, the paper turns into ashes, because there is a break in molecules. Thus, burning paper is an example of chemical change.
C. Give an example of one other physical and chemical change.
Physical – water into ice
Chemical – iron into rust
D. Describe an activity that you might use to help students to understand the differences between chemical and physical changes. Specify the age

The ice floats in the water. Give another example of this scientific principle. For an object to float it must be less dense than the liquid in which it is sitting. Therefore, ice floats because it is lighter than the water it displaces. Any item filled with air, such as balls, balloons, life jackets, hollow toys, etc., will float because air is lighter than water. Thus, object filled with air will displace less water than the weight of the object itself.
B. Water droplets form on the outside of the glass. Give an example of this physical property of matter that can be observed in nature. This physical property is called condensation. An example of condensation in nature is the formation of clouds.
C. Several hours later, the ice cubes are no longer present. Give another example of this physical property of matter.

This physical property is called phase change. Another example of phase changes is vaporization of water through boiling.
D. Describe an activity that might help student to understand the concept of states or phases of matter. Specify the age

Even though the process is reversible it does not mean that it is physical change, in fact it is a chemical change because when you combine water with salt the reaction breaking bonds between the NaCl and a making of bonds through the hydration of ions. We know when physical change occurs their stricture does not change because solid can go back to liquid, and liquid can go back to gas. Chemical change on the different side is a breaking of bonds in the atom for example milk souring or a nail rusting, some examples may also include change of color or smell.…
