Explain The Importance Of Effective Communication With Children, Young People And Adults
Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults as it forms a foundation on which any good relationship is established.
When we talk to one another, we form an opinion of that person, judging their tone of voice, their body language and if the person is showing interest by maintaining eye contact. In becoming a Teaching Assistant especially, I want children of all ages, parents and staff to view me in a positive light, and as a role model. This is especially important when interacting with Adults of different cultures or backgrounds to our own, by developing a good positive rapport we will be leading the way and set a good example on how best to communicate with one another. …show more content…
If it is a child, having the ability to identify what they are learning and being able to recognise each and every childâ€TMs, preferred method of learning will assist how best to structure their interactions. By monitoring how these interactions are developing, the reciprocating behaviour can be modified so the desired outcomes are achieved. There are many reasons why this effective communication will be a necessity in the classroom environment. When we require children and young people to perform tasks in communicating with children we must meet each childâ€TMs own individual needs, show we are listening, and understand what they say is valued. Physically adjusting onto their level, by sitting or kneeling down, will make children feel more comfortable, but we also take care in the choice of language and terms used so they can understand what we mean.
When children disagree and subsequently argue, talking and listening is important to assess what has happened, as is reading their mood/emotional state via their tone of voice and body language. When they are calm, encouraging the showing of respect also allows each child in turn to
