"Challenges Facing Catholic Youth Today"
Now, in a world filled with horrors and the worst of peer pressure our society has ever faced, there are many more obstacles facing children in this Twenty-First Century.
There are many problems regarding peer pressure. Cigarette smoking and drugs are overcrowding and taking over the once pure world. Our friends influence us greatly, and they are reason why we act or dress the way we do. Almost all teenage smokers and drug abusers began through the influence of a peer, and the fear of looking like a coward

    Peer pressure is extremely detrimental that it can put children’s self and health at risk. They can put their selves at health risk in smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs and taking part in sexual activities (Heubeck, 2007). Smoking can increase the chances of heart disease, stroke, emphysema, cancers (lung, throat, stomach and bladder), infections like bronchitis and pneumonia, low bone density that could lead to osteoporosis, a high risk of illness with colds, flu and more (kidshealth.org, 2007). Alcohol drinking can slow down the central part of the nervous system by blocking messages that tries to get to the brain which alters people’s perceptions, emotions, movement, vision and hearing (kidshealth.org, 2007). When people drink more and more alcohol, it can lead to intoxication and it can even lead to alcohol poisoning.
