Achievement gaps may exist between groups of students of different backgrounds (ethnic, racial, gender, disability, and income) on tests, on access to courses and special educational opportunities, and on other indicators such as high school and college completion and employment later in life. These factors also vary depending on school, district and community.

Some possible solutions to close the achievement gap are: Develop comprehensive support for students: This pulls from the community school model by removing barriers that impede student learning. The school community can work to build relationships with medical, social services, and community agencies. Identify students who need additional instructional support via mentoring, tutoring,
