3.3 There are many agencies that we work with to help with children and young peoples development. When we look at behavioural development, social interactions and speech development all these agencies link together. We use nursery transition days to help the child settle into their new environments and arrange intake visits and meetings with the school for a smoother transition. Social services is used if we have any concerns of a child's well being so then police and a designated social worker would also be involved. The health team are always on hand to help if any families need support with parenting or any development issues. They will then offer parents appropriate courses such as nurturing. At Playgroup we can point in the right direction of any help needed such as our family intervention officers who go into the family homes and will discuss any problems families may have. We run a language and play session which families are invited to where they can enjoy some one to one time with their child to do various activities that will enhance development and build parents confidence too. We have various teachers who can give us support too that work within flying start that can give advice on children's development and help observe children if we feel there are any problems. Also we can offer one to one support to children if they need it as many of us have had relevant training through senco.…

Multi agency teams work together to improve a child’s development. Initially a health visitor or clinic would identify problems when a child is taken for check ups. Depending on the action needed the child could be referred to a speech therapist such as SALT. If the child/young person was of school age then the SENCO (special educational needs coordinator) would be well aware of the problems and put interventions into place, outside agencies will then be informed and a ILP (individual learning plan) drawn up which will consist of activities that will benefit the child’s development. Some children have therapy in school hours, which is coordinated between the SENCO and relevant agencies. Time out in class will be given for the child who will then learn different techniques on speech, language and communication. Teaching assistants will be part of the ILP and be instructed by the agencies and class teacher on how to utilize these interventions…

Teachers work in their own classroom but will have to talk to their co-workers about different assignments or a child’s development. Not only is professional collaboration important between co-workers, but it is also important between teachers and parents. During the process of developing an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for a child, the parents should be informed every step of the way. Collaboration is a huge part of this process. Parents need to give their consent in order for the child to be tested. After parental consent, the professional team may start evaluating. A student will be evaluated through many different tests by many different specialists. The specialists on an IEP team include an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a speech therapist, a school psychologist, a school district representative and a special education and general education teacher. Collecting all the data, each person on the team will have to collaborate with one another and share what data they collected and how to go about helping the student succeed.
