Exegesis on Luke 24
Final Exegesis: Luke 24: The Road to Emmaus

Detailed Observations of Luke 24:13-34

Excerpt of Luke 24:13-35, The Message Translation
That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem. They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened. In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them. But they were not able to recognize who he was. He asked, "What's this you're discussing so intently as you walk along?" They just stood there, long-faced, like they had lost their best friend. Then one of them, his name was Cleopas, said, "Are you the only one in Jerusalem who hasn't heard what's happened during the last few days?" He said, "What has happened?"
They said, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene. He was a man of God, a prophet, dynamic in work and word, blessed by both God and all the people. Then our high priests and leaders betrayed him, got him sentenced to death, and crucified him. And we had our hopes up that he was the One, the One about to deliver Israel. And it is now the third day since it happened. But now some of our women have completely confused us. Early this morning they were at the tomb and couldn't find his body. They came back with the story that they had seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Some of our friends went off to the tomb to check and found it empty just as the women said, but they didn't see Jesus." Then he said to them, "So thick-headed! So slow-hearted! Why can't you simply believe all that the prophets said? Don't you see that these things had to happen, that the Messiah had to suffer and only then enter into his glory?" Then he started at the beginning, with the Books of Moses, and went on through all the Prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him. They came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if he were going on but they pressed him: "Stay and

Peter and John run to the tomb to verify her story. They still are unaware (John 20:9) of the scripture that "he must rise again from the dead." They then depart. Mary is suddenly at the tomb, so some time must have passed for her to follow the sprinting Peter and John, and she sees in the tomb two angels in white who ask why she is crying. They do not say Jesus has risen. She still thought that the corpse of Jesus had been stolen. Replying to the angels she met inside the tomb, she said: Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. (John 20:13)…

While the Romans held Judah captive, he along with other prisoners were forced to cross the desert. When the caravan stopped at a village for water one of the Roman soldiers prohibited Judah from having any. Then a man went ahead and provided Judah with water and unexpectedly the Roman soldier did not protest. The man that presented Judah with water was Jesus Christ, who would, again, come into Judah's life later on. At the end of the story, while Jesus was being crucified, Judah brought Jesus water just like he had done for him in the desert. This moment was an epiphany to Judah Ben-Hur because his heart was filled with love, hope, and faith and cleared of hatred.…

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a Jewish leader. One night he met with Jesus and said “Rabbi, we know that God has sent you to teach us. You could not work these miracles, unless God were with you.” There was only one possible reason that Nicodemus met Jesus at night that reason being that the evil hate light; so he was ashamed to be seen with Jesus. The light brings out the evil in a person. Jesus replies to Nicodemus; “I tell you for certain that no one can see…

Matthew 6:9-13 is commonly referred as the “Lord’s Prayer”. In this paragraph, Jesus presented a pattern of prayer to the disciples, thus suggesting the manner in which God should be addressed and the petition we are entitled to present to Him. What is it about this paper that intrigues so many people to dig into the meaning of it? It is interesting to see from the verses above that Jesus’ prayer puts God in the first place. The first half of the prayer focuses exclusively on God and His agenda as believers adore, worship, and submit to His will before they introduce their own personal petitions. The second half of the prayer focuses on how should disciple invite God to their daily life and live upon God’s continuous spiritual provision. Even with the second half where their wills are introduced, God still takes dominant position in the relationship. The discipleship of the followers thus is being presented through day-to-day prayers.…

One evening Jesus was eating with twelve of his disciples. While they were eating he told them that one of them would betray him. Not one disciple would believe him. Jesus told Peter that one day he would deny him. Jesus said" before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times. Peter denied and said that even if he had to die he would never disown him. Jesus and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane. He told them to sit here and keep watch while he prayed. Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. He awakened them and went away once more, to pray. When he came back, they were asleep again. He returned the third time and found them sleeping again. He said to them that his betrayer is coming. Just when Jesus was speaking, Judas one of the twelve, appeared with a crowd of soldiers. They all condemned him to death. They began to hit him with their fists and began to spit at them. While peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servants looked closely at him. She noticed him as one of Jesus' disciples. Peter denied it three times.…

Passage: Peter Stories (14:28-31; 16:13-20; 17:22-27; 18:21-35). The Literary Context of the Passage/s: The literary contexts of the passages are all related to the stories of Peter throughout the gospel of Matthew. Matthew makes great emphasis on what the role Peter has in his gospel. Structurally, in the story we are reading about Peter’s stories during the Progressive Crisis of the Messiah’s Ministry (Matthew 14:1-16:12) and through to the Messiah’s Journey to Jerusalem, which includes Peter’s confession, the first two passion predications, and the call to discipleship (Matthew 16:13-18:35).…

When they arrived and saw Mary, Joseph and the baby they decided to go and tell others about what they had seen and heard. Surprisingly, everyone was amazed at what the shepherd’s told them. The shepherds came back to see baby Jesus, and they started praising God for all the things they had seen with their own eyes. Everything was exactly as they had were told it would be. On the eighth day, when it was time for the baby to be circumcised they named the baby Jesus. Before conception, the name Jesus was given by the angel.
