Examples Of Realism In Fast Car
I think that "Fast Car", by Tracy Chapman, is an example of Realism. This song has very deep meaning, and I wouldn't be surprised if it also had other 'isms' hidden inside the text, such as romanticism. One excellent example of realism is in the text "You still ain't got a job; And I work in a market as a checkout girl" (p6), the speaker is practically telling her boyfriend to "grow up". Then, later that paragraph, she says that things will get better for them. This shows that, although she has a hard life, she is still hopeful about the future. Another good example is when she says this: "You gotta make a decision; Leave tonight or live and die this way" (p4, p10). In doing this, the speaker is giving her boyfriend an ultimatum: leave with
