Overcoming Obstacles
"One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles, possesses the only strength which can overcome adversity".� To me, this means that the only way to conquer a personal loss is by overcoming obstacles in order to gain strength. The death of my grandpa was the biggest obstacle I have had to endure so far in my life. He passed away in the hospital from Lung cancer. My grandpa and grandma lived with my family. Hence, he was really close to me. Overcoming his death took a lot of courage. I managed to overcome the pain due to my understanding, support from my family and my memories.
It was a warm July evening. My dad was at work and my brother and sister were at a friend's place. My mom got a call from my dad saying that my grandpa didn't have much time left in this world. Even before my mom had told me the truth, I knew. A couple of minutes before we arrived at hospital, my grandpa had passed away. I knew that I would have to get through this day one way or another. But the fact, I knew prepared me for this tragedy. My knowledge of the final outcome about my grandpa's death, gave me a chance to spend as much time possible with him. He would tell fairytales, folktales and religious stories. I remember the time my grandpa took me to Wonderland when I was 9 years old. Wonderland is a theme park in Ontario. It has rides for people of all ages. My grandpa and I sat on a mini roller which had to go through a dark tunnel decorated with skeletons. Every time we went through that tunnel we laughed. Thinking back on all the good memories I share with him, I think that this was the main reason why I overcame his death. These memories help me picture him.
