Juxtaposition is a way to show indirect characterization. Juxtaposition can show indirect characterization in everyday life. Juxtaposition can happen to you in the kitchen with your parents, or even school with your friends. The characters of Romeo and Juliet let this type of indirect characterization control them. Shakespeare uses juxtaposition as indirect characterization by making the characters in Romeo and Juliet complex.
Shakespeare show that Romeo is a sweet guy, but he kills people and betrays the people that love him. When juliet finds out about what Romeo did she describes him by saying, “Dove-feathered raven”(3.2.76). Juliet finds out that Romeo killed Tybalt and she describes him as someone who seems sweet like a dove and treats her as if he is a dove, but really he is a killer and a dark person like a raven. When Juliet finds out what Romeo did she also describes him by call him, “Beautiful tyrant”(3.2.75).
