In Romeo and Juliet the prologue had foreshadowed their deaths, They are said to be star crossed lovers who take their life. Its builds tension by making the readers read on and on to find out how it plays out which eventually leads to both of their deaths. The reader is expecting them to be dead by the end of the story ,but they do not know how or the paths they take that would lead them to a tragic ending.
