Examples Of Being A Tomboy
Being the tomboy I was as a child, I never saw myself becoming a cheerleader. That moment my feet hit the mats something had changed in me. I was not the shy girl anymore. The experience I had in those short months would change my life forever. I learned to be a leader, to contribute to my city, and most of all I learned a great deal about myself and how I want to pursue my future. Being a leader can be hard and you have to work hard, however it comes with good repercussions. First of all you learn a lot of responsibilities with being a leader. Such as hearing what your peers have to say. An example is we always set up the homecoming dance, and so to do that you have to hear what people wanted as the theme. Another illustration of being a leader is showing people the right path to go. One way we showed people that were by volunteering. …show more content…
It’s also such a good feeling knowing you did something for someone out of the kindness of your heart. Without going out in my community and working I would have never met the heaps of people I met either. I wouldn’t have additionally had the opportunities either to volunteer. For example, I had never gone to Relay for Life before. Each year our cheer team goes to Relay to help set up the luminaries and set them all around the track. I too got to have some fun and cheer on the walkers! Overall it was a great experience and I helped out a great cause. Relay also gave me a chance to learn how to save money, and by doing so I saved around $200 dollars for the cause. Being a cheerleader gave me insight on what kind of a person I was

Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. I…

Towards the beginning of the school year I took a trip to Greencastle Walmart with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and participated in our local program of handing out fifty $25 Walmart gift cards to families who looked as if they could use some help purchasing school supplies for their kids. We walked around to see different families at the checkouts and asked if we could help pay for their bill. We told them we were with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and received an anonymous donation to help families for school supplies and would like to bless their family. It felt very rewarding to help out families in our own community. Helping to fulfill fifty families needs in one night is something that I will never forget. It has…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

I've volunteered in a number of places and many events, but the one's that have left an impact on me is my time spent at The Women's safe house and Guardian Angels shop and food pantry. They both helped my family through the crisis of leaving my abusive father financially, emotionally, and physically. At the Woman safe house I couldn't help but see the kids and teenager that I was babysitting and see myself in there place and I quickly became that mentor I and help them see past the darkness and into their bright futures. I wanted to give back to the guardian angels for helping us with clothes and food so now I help run their thrift shop and work as the secretary during pantry day. All the people I serve are in the place my family and I was…

There are many ways a person can be a leader. The way I show my leadership qualities is through listening and helping other people where they need it. Not all leaders need to be the stereotypical loud person of the group. In many ways good leaders are the opposite. A good leader sees what needs done and does it often times without others realizing. They put the group’s needs before their own. One area where I have stepped up to become more of a leader is through ski club. In ski club it takes a bit of a group effort especially when there is just one advisor. I listened and filled in to help where it was needed. For example, I would take beginners to get their rentals and teach them the basics like how to put on their ski pass. I also stuck with the beginners throughout their process of learning. In ski club my leadership qualities showed by listening to who needed help and by doing what I could to lend a hand, whether that was staying with beginners all day or giving them directions to the chairlift. Leadership qualities are important to have and I believe I show mine in a more subtle but effective…

In high school, I joined Zonta Club to be involved with school and community. Zonta Club gave me an opportunity to reach out to people that had helped others and inspired other students to do the same. One of the unforgettable moments was when I volunteered in a fundraiser to help Alzheimer's disease. It was an event, called Rock-a-Thon, where kids and adults were together to raise awareness those who had the disease. Everyone was participating in the activities that were available in the event. There were games that both kids and elders could play with. They showed stories about the importance of being aware and helping those with Alzheimer’s disease. The event had shaped my views on giving back to the community. Service was not only about giving back, but it is also about learning from others. The joy that the people had even when there was a sickness in their life was incredible. It made me realize how I was fortunate to be living a life without the disease. The fundraiser had made me learn about the people in my town and the obstacles that had to endure and were still enduring. The event had impact the involvement and the appreciation I have over the…

As long as I can remember service to others was always encouraged by my family and teachers. For example, I helped teachers with the intent of lightening their load of work so they can be able to go home earlier. Things like this make me proud because I am able to help others, and to bring a smile to their faces. My excuse to avoid community service was that I always thought that school was all about homework and getting good grades to be on the top 20 of your class. Truth is I have always overlooked this people thinking they were being lazy for not working, but through this community service I learned that each and everyone around the world is fighting their own battles and we all deal with them the best way we can. I am proud of myself because I went to that community service and learned about this people who I had always stereotyped by their actions, community service has encouraged me to actively listen and learn from others, to walk alongside my neighborhood and to build new…

It was my favorite activity because it was a celebration for the homeless. It gave them hope and essentials before they had to endure the cold winter. A group of us were able to pass out clothing, bedding, and toys to those who waited. I also helped serve holiday meals to people, which included turkey, macaroni, and pumpkin pie. It was rewarding to see everyone eating nice meals while a band played holiday music in the background. For a moment, everyone could forget their situations and enjoy the presence of others. At times, it was overwhelming because we were helping hundreds of people, but in the end I enjoyed it all. I learned the most from this event because I saw parents that were trying to provide for their infants and people who had homes but could not pay for their basic utilities, all desperately waiting in line to receive clothing and bedding. This gave me a new definition of what homeless means.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…

Part of leadership is the ability to make a difference under difficult circumstances. But, what is a leader? A leader is a person or thing that holds a dominant or superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others. I portray the qualities that a leader has: persistance, determination, confidence, and passion. This past summer my gymnastics career went to the next level; I was offered a job at the gymnasium.…

I was privileged enough to be a part of a program in my high school that encouraged participating in volunteer work for both the community and school. For the past 3 years of my high school career, I was able to volunteer at neighborhood events hosted by a recreational center to a larger scale event like the Little Feet Meet hosted by Old Dominion University, where a Special Olympics is organized for elementary students across Norfolk who have mental and physical disabilities. By volunteering to these type of events, I realized that one of the fundamental aspects of being a good citizen is helping provide an environment in which everyone can feel free and…
