Executive Summary
Common Ground is a start-up business that will provide an area for college students to spend their time. Our business will bring together the main needs and wants of college students into one convenient location within walking distance to campus. Common Ground will provide different environments in order to fulfill the multiple needs of the target markets. The environments include, but are not limited to, a late-night hangout, a pizza place, and a coffee shop. This business is the first of its kind in the area and will be the only establishment focused on meeting the needs of the student and young adult population.
Our target market is the roughly 5,000 students going to East Central University (ECU) during fall and spring semesters. Due to the fact our location will be near the campus, we will be geared toward college students. We will also market towards younger families and business professionals as well to be a multi-facet company. Potential competitors are other bars and restaurants in the Ada, Oklahoma, area. Currently, Ada has three bars and about ten restaurants that would be competition for our business.
Common Ground’s objective is to be the number one college hangout in Ada. We plan on achieving this by our proximity to campus, our college student inspired atmosphere, and our willingness to meet the wants and needs of college students. We will stay on top of current students’ needs and always make sure we have the number one place for college students to spend their time. We will be located in a two-story building across the street from the ECU campus with a basement that provides ample space.

Most big colleges have their own version of Five Points; UGA has Clayton Street, UF has Midtown, and UNC has Franklin Street. Here in Columbia, we have Five Points, a cultural center located at the triple intersection of Harden Street, Devine Street, and Santee Avenue. The area that actually constitutes “Five Points” extends several blocks in every direction and is just a short walk from the University of South Carolina. As such, Five Points is closely tied with the University and its students as a place to shop, eat, and drink. While it is a relatively upscale restaurant and shopping district during the day, hundreds of students flock to Five Points at night to drink, dance, and party. As such, Five Points itself constitutes a large portion of “university culture” here at the University…

“Connecting with my core” begins by taking the time to develop a deep connection with my personal core. Spending time determining my purpose, values, and intentions will provide me with the foundation needed to ground my decision making as an administrator. Learning to be true to me, relying on and trusting this foundation when making decisions during easy times and when things get tough, leads to consistent and courageous leaders. Once I have made a connection with my personal core, it’s time to lead stakeholders through a process of developing their core. Organizing small “coffee-house” style gatherings is one approach that could be used in this district. The district already has active parent and booster groups, which would make a great…
