The advantages of texting versus calling Text messaging is being used by more and more people in the world today. Text messaging is silent communication between two people. Text messaging serves the purpose of easy communication that can be accessible even within time constraints. There are several advantages that have led to the popularity of text messaging services over traditional methods of communication through phone calls. Often times, text messaging offers a more convenient method of communicating over verbal phone calls.
In the recent past, people usually used mobile phones to talk to each other. But nowadays we rarely see these instances. Instead we see a lot of people typing messages on those tiny keypads, using their mobile phones to send text messages. The majority of today’s mobile phone users have become texters. One big advantage that everyone likes is that text messaging is one of the cheapest and fastest ways of communicating with people around the world. For example if you have to tell something to someone, but you don’t want to interrupt them with a phone call, you can text them and they can look at it when they have a chance.
The term SMS is another term for Short Message Service. It refers to the means of written communication by means of a mobile phone. Text messaging allows mobile users to communicate privately without being heard by others. Sending an SMS messages is also a lot faster than composing e-mails. In addition it is very convenient because one does not need a computer, unlike instant messaging and e-mailing. Another advantage of text messaging is that whenever a text message is sent to a mobile phone, the message is stored in the SMSC. This means that even if the mobile phone is off or is unavailable, the message will still be received soon as the mobile phone is turned on or has a signal. Text messages can also be saved in the SIM card as long as it is not

Technology has came a long way and will continue to improve and explore unknown territories. One of the new things discovered is texting and while texting is helpful it has a lot of disadvantages and downfalls. If texting could be listed as a skill, many of my friends would qualify as highly skilled in that area. I am glued to my phone and always texting so I know firsthand just how much texting can be abused and its less than helpful qualities. Texting kills some good old fashioned phone call conversations, face time, and is making annoying phrases part of everyday talking; texting is an obsession for many people and is doing more damage than most people know by damaging people’s people skills.…

There are several advantages for texting rather than having a voice communication. One main argument of why texting is better is that it gives a lot of discretion. Text messaging allows you to communicate with others in situations where a face-to-face or phone conversation is no possible or appropriate. For example, I rather send a text message to my boss, saying that I will be out sick today; rather than call him and have a proper conversation. I prefer text messaging here because I don’t need to know what or how my boss feels about me calling in sick. Other advantages include, record keeping. If someone sends you a text message, you have physical proof of that text until you delete it, whereas on the phone you have no place to store or record the conversation. With these advantages, people ask why can’t they just send email rather than text messages. Sending emails from your phone uses internet and with the technology increasing daily, the cost for these internet services are increasing too. Also, a person is more likely to check his phone more often than his computer.…

Many people say that texting is a faster cheaper way to communicate. In general, the convenience of texting is more important to society than the cost of savings. But too much of a good thing is never ideal. Although phone calls and texting aim to accomplish the same task, texting can have direct consequences if not used in moderation. (Oppapers 2012)…
