ASSIGNMENT

SUBJECT: STRATEGIC AND INNOVATIVE MARKETING

LECTURER: ELLIE SAMSER STUDENT ID: L0698NINI0210

SUBMITTED DATE: 20/04/2010
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In economics the market relations between the suppliers and consumers of a product are known as demand and supply. From a demand –supply model we can easily determine the price and quantity sold in a market of a particular good like personal computer. In recent market, the affordability of computer plays an important role in high demand of it and to fulfil the required demand suppliers/ producers supply more and more computer in market.
There are a number of factors which affect the demand and supply of computers and hence the price is automatically determined from the demand-supply curve in a demand-supply model.
The increasing number of population, preferences, income etc mainly affects the demand of computers. All these factors affect the demand of computers positively we get a clear right shift in demand curve that increases price and quantity of computers which may yield a shortage of computers in market.
Also the supply of computers affected by number of suppliers, cost of the different factors of production, technology etc. These three factors have a positive impact on supply of computers in computer market so we see a clear right shift in supply curve which decreases the price and increases the quantity of computers which may yield the surplus of computers.
Finally, we get the complete picture of the recent computer market if we combine both rightward shift of demand and supply curve of computer in market together in demand-supply model. In this case, the quantity increases but the price of the computer might fall or rise. For a certain shift of computer demand and certain shift of computer supply the price will not be changed but a little greater shift in supply curve than the certain shift will fall the computer price.
Last but not the least, in the face of increasing demand of

When buyers and sellers agree on a price, market equilibrium price, and quantity are achieved. Market equilibrium price and quantity rise and fall based on changes to supply and demand such as taxes and subsidies, prices of other goods, consumer preferences, number of buyers in the market, and consumer expectations” (McConnell, Brue, & Flynn, 2009, p. 48-52). These external forces cause a shift in supply and demand as demonstrated in Appendix A.…

    5. Technology advances have affected the market for computers by increasing the supply causing a shift to the right, which has also increased the demand for computer software, also lowering the price. As for typewriters it has decreased the demand because computers are becoming more affordable because they are cheaper to make.…

There are several essential factors that impact the demand for iPads, these are: price of the product (internal variable), price of substitute products, and incomes of potential customers (external variables). As the primary principle of the demand function stated, that if price of a certain product or service increases, the quantity of that same product will decrease. Most, if not all, customers make their purchasing decision of a product based on its price (all other things held constant). If there are two similar products but one is more expensive than the other, it is rational to choose for the cheaper product.…

Abstract—Recent works have indicated that the price of computers is a key factor in explaining the growth of computer spending. However, it remains unclear whether the price elasticity of the demand for computers is constant over time. Findings on the pattern of price elasticity will have important implications in the study of information technology (IT) innovation diffusion. To test the hypothesis of dynamic price elasticity, we extend existing growth models to include a price factor with different elasticity specifications. Nested specifications of three growth models were tested using spending data from 1955 to 1984 adjusted by a quality price index for computers. The results indicate that three out of four competing models depict dynamic price elasticity over the investigated period. A similar pattern is also observed when the models are estimated using more recent data on mainframe computer spending. Our results underscore the dynamic behavior of price sensitivity in computer spending over time. They offer a new perspective to study innovation attributes and to examine their impacts empirically over time. Implications for information systems (IS) management and IT suppliers are also discussed. Index Terms— Computer spending, growth model, innovation diffusion, price elasticity.…

Personal computers (“PC”) are an elastic product and the market structure is free competition. Though PC’s are elastic they display inelastic properties because of the large numbers in use, and the important roles PCs have in the lives of many Americans. In 2010, there were 950 PCs in use for every 1,000 people in the U.S. (Computer Industry Almanac). This does not account for business use or those that have multiple PCs, but these numbers indicate that most Americans own a PC. Four million Boomers turn 64 every year for the next 18 years (Baby Boomer Headquarters, 2011). The potential sales and profit in this market is significant.…

The law of supply is therefore a direct relation between price and supply. Higher the price (P1) greater the supply. A firm’s supply curve is equiv.aspt to its Marginal Cost curve. To construct market supply curves of a firm we have to make a lateral summation of the supply of firms. Therefore the market supply…

Since the price of a product under perfect competition is determined by the intersection of the demand and supply curves of the product of an industry, we need to know the nature and shape of the supply curve of a product under perfect competition. We shall now explain how the supply curve of a product under condition of perfect competition is derived and the shape it takes both in the short run and the long run.…

    Purchasing Computer

A product that I have had experience purchasing is a computer. I bought it for attending college, but I have used it for so many other purposes. Today, having a computer has almost become a necessity; people use them for school, shopping, research, and communication. Many things that you may be on the lookout for, you can only find on the internet. Today, many people own a computer already and have no need to purchase another one. New discoveries in technology could be a factor in the change of supply and demand. For instance, if they found a newer and cheaper way to produce computers, then the price of them would go down, making the demand rise even more. Some of this products substitute would be another factor. Substitutes are goods that are usually used in place of one another. Today, people are able to access the World Wide internet through their cellular devices, giving them the opportunity to make the same transactions or do the same research that they would be able to do on their computers; this is making it almost unnecessary to own a computer. There are also places like the public library that offers use of their computers at no cost to you, which is how I did all my homework and research for school before purchasing a computer. These substitutes could make the demand for computers to decrease, which in turn will cause the quantity to increase. There are some items that are made to complement computers, such as software or routers. Without some of these products, the computer that you purchased may be of no use to you. In the case of schooling, there are requirements for certain software’s that do not come already included in your computer purchase, and you also need to set up your means for internet connection, which would require a wireless router, broadband, dial-up, or Wi-Fi. Either way, your computer does not come already installed with these applications, they must be purchased separately. The impact that computers have on people’s everyday life…

Supply and Demand are the two most used words in economics (Colander, 2004 p.83). My basic understanding of these two terms is that: When there is a lower supply of something than meets the consumers wants, only those willing to pay a higher price will be able to satisfy their demand. Likewise, when there is a higher supply of something than is needed to satisfy the wants of consumers; theoretically, consumers will be able to buy their article at a lesser cost. With the holiday season upon us, and Christmas under a week away, the supply and demand of items seems to be a perfect subject with which to begin a class about economics. Throughout this paper, I will give some insight on the supply and demand of one of this seasons most sought after items; Microsoft's Xbox 360. I will also explain how the current supply and demand situation has tampered with the prices people are having to pay in order to acquire one of these toys.…
