Training and development- is a function of human resource management concerned with organizational activity aimed at bettering the performance of individuals and groups in organizational settings.
1. Ancient Time
(Any period before middle ages)
Since prehistoric times the jobs of adults have been taught to children to prepare them for adulthood.
During Antiquity the earliest kind of training is On-the-Job training or OJT.
- OJT is a face to face or one-on-one kind of training at the job site where someone knows how to do a task shows another how to do it.
- OJT used during antiquity because it did not require learners to be able to read and write.
- Parents or other members of the group usually knew how to do all the jobs necessary for survival and could pass their knowledge on to the children through a direct instruction.
- It is inexpensive because no special equipment is needed other than what is normally used on the job.
-This best describe the Chinese philosophy in the 5th Century BC by philosopher Lao Tzu- “ If you tell me , I will listen. If you show me, I will see. But if you let me experience, I will learn”.
